The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio diesel variant will have the same power from its 2.2-litre diesel engine as the latest Thar
The power output of the diesel version of the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio has been leaked through a new sighting. Scorpio is a veteran workhorse in Mahindra’s camp and has been one of the most popular SUVs in the country. The application of this vehicle has been quite varied. People in various parts of the country use it as a personal SUV for off-roading adventures, as a commercial vehicle or passenger carrier or as a luggage carrier in remote parts. But this latest iteration might cater more to the urban buyers looking for occasional off-roading stints.

The label marked on the windshield of the Scorpio gives away what powers it. This looks like from a testing vehicle. The DSL might represent the diesel powertrain and 130 MT would most likely mean 130 hp (which is the same as Thar) and MT represents manual transmission. 2WD unequivocally means 2-wheel-drive system. There will definitely be a 4WD version too. The next-gen Scorpio will be powered by the tried and tested 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that powers the current Thar and a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine that outputs 150 hp and 300 Nm of peak power and torque. There will be options for manual and automatic transmissions.

What will be interesting to see is whether Mahindra offers the 4WD version with the petrol powertrain or not. Scorpio being what it is, the higher trims of the diesel powertrains are bound to get the 4WD. In this video, the SUV is completely camouflaged but we are able to identify the silhouette. It will continue to feature that tall boy SUV appearance and the front grille looks massive with an upright bonnet. The fenders are beefy and the side steps enhance the ingress and egress features of the SUV.

The cameraman tries to show us the interior and the carbon layout. Although the image is not clear, the layout seems modern and practical. In other spy videos, we have seen an infotainment screen and other modern bits. Mahindra will try to equip this new Scorpio with some tech features and enhance the cabin feel to distinguish it completely from the outgoing model.
