Electric cars are leading the future of mobility and have also begun dominating the awards and accolades reserved for outstanding achievements in the automobile industry.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 was the centre of attention at the 2022 World Car Awards ceremony held at the New York International Auto Show. Having already gained a ton of fans, customers and industry experts alike, the India-bound Ioniq 5 took home three awards including the World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle of the Year and World Car Design of the Year. Hyundai’s EV beat strong contenders in Kia EV6 and Ford Mustang Mach-E. The electric crossover EV has already been reviewed by some of the Indian journalists and will eventually make its way to our shores once the EV trend grows.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Wins 3 Awards
The Ioniq 5 is an elegantly designed EV with a subtly crafted exterior compared to some of the rather polarising designs typical to EVs. The front features sleek LED headlamps with dual LED DRLs, a narrow slab of glossy black panel instead of the grille, and a sealed overall layout highlighting its electric credentials. The sides are dominated by a classic retro-themed dual-tone alloy wheel design with a modern turbine pattern with the tyres positioned wide apart opening up a wheelbase of 3,000 mm, blacked-out side pillars, flush-fitting door handles and a distinct side body cladding theme with sharp angular creases. The tail section comprises of LED tail lamps connected by a black glass panel, sporty bumpers with skid plate and a massive roof-mounted spoiler.
Interior and Features
The inside of the Ioniq 5 certainly is a huge departure from the interior of the traditional vehicles. There is a white dual-screen setup for the driver’s instrument cluster and infotainment system, an uncluttered dashboard theme with a continuous panel for the AC vents, a dual-spoke steering wheel with controls, compact centre control freeing up tons of space between the front seats, all the modern connectivity features and tons of space for the rear passengers, thanks to a long wheelbase.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 comes with a 77.4 kWh Li-ion battery that powers the electric motor to produce 225 hp and 350 Nm of peak power and torque in the RWD configuration and 320 hp and 605 Nm of peak power and torque in the AWD configuration. With a standard AC Level 2 240V charger, the EV can be charged from 10-100% in 6 hours 43 minutes. With the DC Ultra Fast Charger (>250 kW), it could go from 10-80% in just 18 minutes. Let us hope that Hyundai brings it to India for the customers to experience what the Ioniq 5 has to offer.
