Loyalty always gets rewarded in some way or other and what better way but to get a costly BMW for years of commitment to your employer? This is exactly what happened with 5 senior management executives of a Chennai-based IT firm that recently gifted BMW 5-Series cars to them for staying loyal and committed to the company all these years. Kissflow, a global software-as-a-service company has gifted these luxury cars, costing around Rs 88 lakh on-road, to 5 employees for helping the company sail through the COVID-19 storm that, at one point, threatened the company’s existence.

In fact, the company decided to surprise the 5 employees by not informing them about the ‘gift’ until just hours before the handing-over ceremony. The expensive BMW 5-Series were then handed over to these 5 executives by Suresh Sambandam, CEO, Kissflow Inc. These 5 employees have been a part of the company since its inception and stayed loyal to the firm throughout their journey. The CEO even revealed that some of these recipients came from humble backgrounds and had to go through many challenges to reach where they are today.
“There were difficult times. Even during the pandemic, the investors were not sure whether this company will sustain and build a future. Today we are very happy that we have paid back the investors and now it has become a fully owned privately held company,” Sambandam said. Hardly any of these employees were aware of their amazing gift and many started wondering what’s going on when they were made to assemble for the ceremony. However, their joys knew no bounds as the expensive BMW 530d cars rolled-in one by one and were lined up parallel to each other along with the family members of the employees.

“The cars are for these five who were with me when I dug 100 feet for gold (setting up Kissflow while others left the organisation midway),” Sambandam said. When asked what other employees of the company would be gifted, Sambandam, who himself drives a BMW 6 Series, said, “this is an inspiration to them. We want to motivate them (to perform much better). We take care of our employees much better. For example, there is no sick leave or casual leave here unlike other companies. It is just one leave for them. If they do not want to come and work, they can work from home. There is no attendance system like biometric system and all…we know our employees”, he said.

Some of the beneficiaries who were told about their award only in the afternoon and they all felt it could be some sort of a ‘pleasant surprise’ while others thought it could be a small outing with the CEO. as some thought it was just an outing with the bosses. The recipients of the BMW 5-Series cars included Dinesh Varadharajan, Chief Product Officer, Kauskiram Krishnagayee, Director (Product Management), Vivek Madurai, Director, Adhi Ramanathan, Director and Prasanna Rajendran, Vice-President. “It is a pleasant surprise for me. I thought we are going for lunch or dinner with everyone. Did not expect this”, Krishnasayee said.
After he handed over the keys of the new vehicles to their owners, Sambandam said, “These are the five people who stayed with me in the trenches. Without them Kissflow would not be where it is today, and this is a very small token of appreciation. I feel happy to see them enjoy it with their families”.
