With an ARAI-rated mileage of 25.19 kmpl, the 1.0-litre version of 2022 Maruti WagonR turns out to be more frugal than the current model
Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest-selling carmaker, recently launched the much-awaited highly updated Baleno. The facelifted premium hatchback has already garnered over 25,000 bookings and looks all set to write another success story in the B2-hatchback segment. However, the carmaker isn’t going to rest on its laurels as it has now introduced an updated version of its popular tallboy. The 2022 Maruti WagonR facelift has been launched at a starting price of Rs 5,39,500 (ex-showroom). Also, among other things, the new model will offer significantly higher mileage than the current model.

2022 Maruti WagonR Mileage Increase
The biggest change for the WagonR will come under the hood. The 1.0-litre of the WagonR will now come with the K10C 1.0-litre DualJet naturally-aspirated three-cylinder engine from the Celerio. The ZXI variant, on the other hand, will get the K12N 1.2-litre DualJet naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine. The new engines are not just peppier than the ones they replace but even offer a higher mileage. As per the leaked brochure, the tallboy will now offer up to 25.19 kmpl, which is a 3.4 kmpl improvement over the 21.79 kmpl offered by the 1.0-litre variant of the current WagonR. The transmission options continue to be the 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT. The fact that all the variants will now come with an idle-start-stop feature as standard further aids the fuel mileage. The S-CNG variants offer a mileage of 34.05 km/kg.
New Features
In terms of styling, the 2022 Maruti WagonR won’t be too different from the outgoing model. As per the leaked brochure, the exterior will get new paint schemes with the the tallboy getting Gallant Red shade. A dual-tone option will be also on offer on the new red paint and the Magma grey option in which the ORVMs and the roof will be painted black to impart a sporty look. Other than this, the new car will be sold with 14-inch alloy wheels on the top-spec trim. This is a welcome move as the WagonR is not available with alloys on any of the trims in its current avatar. Other variants will be sold with 13 and 14-inch steel wheels. Also, the car will be sold in new CNG and Tour variants.

Meanwhile, the higher variants will feature the SmartPlay Studio infotainment unit with navigation, steering-mounted controls and 4 speakers. There is no word on any kind of structural reinforcements or updated sheetmetal but the safety features on offer include dual airbags (standard on all variants), child lock on rear doors, speed sensitive door locks, ABS with EBD, Central Locking, Front Fog Lamps, Security Alarm, Seatbelt Reminder Alarm and Rear Parking Sensors. The 2022 Maruti WagonR facelift will lock horns with models like the Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago and top-spec Renault Kwid. The new model is expected to launch next month with prices witnessing a small increment over the current model.
