If you are a performance car lover, there is no doubt you would not be unaware of Mercedes-Benz AMG and BMW M. Both these are subsidiaries of their respective parents and specialize in high performance luxury cars. What is so unique about these performance models is the aggressive looks, better handling & stability, higher performance and more extensive use of carbon fiber than their regular counterparts.
At the 2012 Auto Expo we covered the unveiling of BMW M5 performance model, if you remember. Unlike the previous M models, as a surprise, the company has unveiled a new breed of BMW M Diesel Engine performance models lately. More expensive than their petrol counterparts though, the real beauty lies in the perfect balance of power and efficiency that these models will offer. Ruling out the speculation of one single diesel M model, the company has launched four different models: BMW M550d xDrive, BMW M550d xDrive Touring, BMW X5 M50d and BMW X6 M50d.
All the models equip an all new and exclusively developed 3.0 litre 6-cylinder, in-line, CRDI diesel engine that delivers 381 BHP of max power and 740 Nm of peak torque. The impressive economy of the engine comes from BMW EfficientDynamics technology incorporating Auto Start-Stop function and ECO PRO mode. The features list is long and includes the following:
- Head-Up Display
- Adaptive Headlights
- High-Beam Assistant
- BMW Night Vision with pedestrian recognition (BMW M550d xDrive)
