To be launched pretty soon, the Kia Carens is based on the Seltos but will enjoy a unique look along with a 3-row layout that will help it take on the Maruti Ertiga
Kia Carens made its global debut recently and will launch in the coming weeks. The Seltos-based MPV will rival the Maruti Ertiga and Mahindra Marazzo. A leaked document shows that the upcoming car could be a tad safer than not just the donor car but even than the popular rival from India’s largest-selling car company. It looks like for the Carens, Kia is aiming to achieve a Global NCAP rating of at least 4-star. This will be better than the 3-star score of both the Seltos and the Ertiga.

Among the highlights of the Kia Carens is the fact that it comes with a host of standard safety features such as a full quote of 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Descent and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. In case the new model manages to bag a 4-star rating, it will stand at par with the Marazzo in terms of the safety assessment. It’s noteworthy that the Xylo-successor is currently the safest MPV in the affordable car market.
As per the leaked document, the Carens will benefit from the high usage of high strength steel in the construction of its structure. The fourth model in its company’s range will be slotted close to the Seltos. Pre-bookings of the upcoming RV are already underway and it has already managed to garner a sufficiently positive response from the buyers. The new model will be sold in 5 variants – Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury, and Luxury Plus.

Kia Carens will share its engine options with the Seltos, which means it will be available with 1.5-litre petrol, 1.4-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre turbo-diesel options. The base petrol motor will offer 115PS/144Nm but the turbo version will output 140PS/242Nm. The diesel engine will produce 115PS/250Nm. All the engines will be available with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. Automatic transmission options include CVT, 6-speed torque converter and 7-speed DSG for the 1.5-litre petrol, 1.5-litre diesel and 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, respectively. The Kia Carens will be available with a 7-seater layout as standard but the Luxury Plus trim will be optionally available with captain seats for the middle-row.
