Ford owners are likely to appreciate the solid build quality and powerful engines of the recently launched VW Taigun
Ford India halted its domestic car business last year after suffering heavy losses for a large part of its existence in the market. The company is now planning to stay afloat in India through imports that are likely to be rolled out in the market later this year. However, even though the sudden exit of the carmaker has left many Ford owners disappointed, they continue to swear by the great build quality and potent engines of their vehicles. Now, these are two traits that are offered even by the recently launched VW Taigun and that’s exactly what a dealer of Volkswagen India is pitching to Ford car owners looking to upgrade.

An advertisement by EVM Volkswagen, a VW India dealer with outlets in Trivandrum, Kollam, Kottayam, Cochin and Cheranellor, has been seen inviting Ford car owners to exchange their current car with the VW Taigun under a special used car exchange program. The dealer has asked such owners to exchange their Ford and ‘upgrade to a safer, better and more powerful Volkswagen car’ while benefiting from special benefits. We feel that the Taigun is one of the most involving C-SUVs on sale currently, which means the owners of EcoSport, which used to be one of the most exciting B-SUVs, could want to upgrade to the Taigun. The latest offering from Volkswagen India should even appeal to owners of the Figo, Aspire and Freestyle as it has the solid build of the discontinued models while being much more sophisticated and powerful.

On the flip side, however, what could actually Ford owners would be the maintenance costs of the VW Taigun. Volkswagen India has made attempts to ensure an easy ownership experience that is light on the pocket but matching Ford’s segment-best maintenance costs is something that not many have been able to achieve. Another thing that could keep Ford owners from upgrading to a Taigun is the unavailability of a diesel engine option. The 1.5 TDCi motor of the EcoSport is renowned for its strong power delivery and high frugality but the MQB-A0-IN-based C-SUV is currently being sold only with 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine options. We first drove the EcoSport diesel in 2013 and has always loved the SUV for the great combination of performance, fuel efficiency and reliability it offers. Our review below talks in detail about the original sub-4-metre SUV.

Meanwhile, the VW Taigun is on sale in a price range of Rs 10.99 – 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom). As we said, it’s being sold with 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine options. Both the motors are available with manual and automatic transmission choices and so far, the compact SUV has been perceived as a good alternative to hot-sellers like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
