We have been told that the Mahindra Thar that suffered from an engine failure has been given a new motor
The Mahindra Thar is a perfect lifestyle off-roading machine. Because of its growing popularity, the new version of the vehicle is in huge demand. The Mahindra Thar is also one of the most preferred 4X4 SUVs for long trips in rough conditions. However, in a strange turn of events, Mahindra Thar’s owner had quite an unreliable experience with his unit. It all started with white smoke and ended up with the engine failing at 11,660km. The owner shared the whole incident in a long message. However, it looks like he’s finally got a replacement engine and his SUV is back to clocking miles.
According to the car owner, the new Mahindra Thar (purchased on 3 Feb 2021) started emitting white smoke after running to around 500km. Upon visiting the service center on 22 February 2021 he was told that the problem should resolve itself. The vehicle received the first service and was running smoothly till the 8000km mark. After which, the white smoke emerged again. This time he was told by the service center that there are no faults and the problem is fixed. After another 2,500km, the white smoke returned again. The owner quickly made a video and shared it with the service center. So, after running 11,660km (on 22 Dec, 2021) they found the problem and reported that the engine had failed. Apparently, the car engine is sucking oil (3 liters out of 6).
This is when the Mahindra Thar owner received a tough ask. The Mahindra service center asked him to replace the faulty engine. However, the question is why should he get the engine replacement when the problem was there from the start. The servicing people assured him that the vehicle was fine and he should keep driving. There is a possibility that the engine damage could have been avoided if the problem was detected early. Then, the customer wants the car to be replaced, instead of the engine. A case could be made that he was delivered a faulty unit which led to engine failure eventually. There might be some other problems as well. However, we have. been told that the owner has finally settled for a new motor and his SUV is now as good as new.
The new Mahindra Thar comes with 2 engine options – a 2.2-liter turbo-diesel and a 2-liter turbo-petrol that output 130 PS/ 320 Nm and 150 PS/320 Nm, respectively. On both, you can choose between two transmission options – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic with a low range box. Additionally, the company has added a transfer case and a mechanically locking center differential. Safety features include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and front seatbelt reminder. You also get cruise control, halogen headlamps with LED DRLs, electrically operated AC, steering-mounted controls, a digital MID in the instrument cluster, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
