Bascially a basic version of the mini-off-roader, the Suzuki Jimny Lite doesn’t get a touchscreen infotainment and comes with steel wheels
Revealed in June 2021, the Suzuki Jimny Lite is an affordable version of the mini-off-roader that is slated to launch in India later this year. The basic version is already on sale in Australia and today, we’ll focus on what the foreign media has to say about this off-roader.
In its Suzuki Jimny Lite review, Drive notes that the bare-basic offering is highly lovable for being a lot of fun off the road while its tiny footprint makes it quite useful as a city car. However, it also lists out that the new entry-level model isn’t as feature-laden and totally lacks even basic features such as an infotainment unit. Meanwhile, Mat Watson from CarWow says that the new commercial vehicle variant of the SUV is like ‘eating Sushi without Wasabi’ as all the essential ingredients are there but lacks the extra bit found on the passenger vehicle variant.
Talking about the design, the commercial vehicle version is based on the base trim of the passenger version model and gets the same kit. OUtside, you get foglamps, halogen headlamps, steel wheels instead of alloys, black-coloured ORVMs and door handles. Inside, as mentioned, there’s no touchscreen while the SUV gets manual aircon controls. The steering wheel doesn’t get a leather cover but the speedo console remains the same as what you get on the regular version. Even the other traits remains the same. The boot capacity is 863-litre but that’s simply because there’s no rear seats. The commercial version is even quite uncomfortable for the driver due to the cage that it comes with. Also, the back windows have not been blacked out, which means people can see what you’re hauling around.
The good bit is that Suzuki Jimny’s K15B 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine along with the well-sorted 5-speed manual transmission has been carried over to the Jimny Lite.. The familiar motor that can be found on Indian cars like Maruti Ciaz and Vitara Brezza outputs 101PS and 130Nm for the off-roader. What’s even better is that in spite of being a bare-basic commercial segment model, it comes with Suzuki’s ALLGRIP PRO four-wheel-drive system with a low-range transfer case.
