As the launch of the Tata Tiago CNG will finally happen in the coming weeks, the first batch of the vehicles has already started reaching dealership stockyards
The Tata Tiago CNG was recently teased while dealers have already started accepting bookings for the new engine variant. And now, going by the video we have below, it’s clear that the first batch of vehicles has started reaching the dealerships. Also, this sighting gives us a good look at the boot space of the new model and as expected, the CNG tank has eaten into much of the trunk of the vehicle.

The authorized dealerships of Tata Motors are known to be registering bookings for amounts ranging Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000. The official prices are expected to be revealed by the end of this month but our guess is that the new model will cost roughly Rs 60,000 more than the comparable petrol variant. Visually, nothing really will change with the introduction of the CNG variant, though a dedicated badge can be seen affixed onto the boot. Also, changes on the inside are restricted simply to the inclusion of a button below the audio system and, of course, the huge CNG tank placed in the boot.

As can be seen in the video here, the tank has been neatly mounted inside the boot but as the vlogger says, getting the spare wheel out of its recess could be a bit inconvenient. Also, a close look reveals that the company seems to have opted against giving a full size spare wheel and instead, a space-saver is being provided to maximise the boot space. This spare wheel is recommended to be used at speeds below 80 kmph.
Currently, the Tata Tiago comes powered with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that puts out a maximum power of 86PS and a peak torque of 113Nm. The transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. The CNG model, however, will get lower performance figures along with the 5-speed manual being the only transmission option. Moreover, the CNG variant might also not be available in the top-spec XZ range, which means the car would lose out on some high-end features like an Apple CarPlay/Android Auto-equipped touchscreen infotainment unit.

Once launched, the Tata Tiago CNG will be seen rivalling models like the Maruti WagonR CNG and Hyundai Santro CNG. Also, it will be joined by its sedan sibling, Tigor’s CNG variant, which will rival the Hyundai Aura CNG. The specs and the mileage figures of both the models will remain the same.
