This clip of the Mahindra Thar attempting a near vertical climb has been making headlines. We have already seen how capable of an off-roader the SUV is. It has been a favourite among the hardcore off-roading enthusiasts in the country for a long time. The reason for that is fairly simple. The bold modern appearance, go-anywhere element and latest features make it a perfect lifestyle off-roader at this price point. Let us watch this vertical climb feat that it was able to achieve.

Mahindra Thar Vertical Climb
This clip has been uploaded on the _the_blvck_barrel page on Instagram. It starts with the Thar owner starting the vertical climb from the road. A massive crowd has gathered around to witness this unique feat. There is a huge rock on the side of which this Thar owner is attempting to climb all the way to the top. The driver begins by crawling the SUV at a minimum speed. The SUV must’ve been in the 4×4 configuration with a locked differential. Within a matter of seconds, it was able to reach the summit without any fuss. People are seen cheering and applauding the successful attempt. This is yet another case where the SUV has flaunted its capabilities. It also explains why there is a huge waiting period for the Thar in our market.

The Thar comes with 2 engine options, a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel, and a 2-litre turbo-petrol. The oil-burner makes 130 PS/320 Nm of peak figures while the petrol makes 150 PS/320 Nm of max figures. Transmission options for both the powertrains are a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic with a low range box. You also get a transfer case and a mechanically locking centre differential. The prices of the Thar range between Rs 12.78 lakh and Rs 15.08 lakh, ex-showroom. The only direct rival is the Force Gurkha that has also recently received a new-gen upgrade. There is news of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny making its way to our shores in the 5-door version. The 5-door version of the Mahindra Thar is also in the works.
