The Alto is an international model and has seen a facelift in Japan. However, Maruti Suzuki has other plans for the popular compact hatchback in India.
The new Maruti Suzuki Alto has been revealed for the Japanese market. However, there is a catch. It falls under the Kei category of cars that is a huge market in Japan. Kei cars, essentially, refer to ultra-small cars which are highway legal. They could measure anything from 3 m to 3.4 m in length. For reference, the Indian Alto is 3.44 m in length which is roughly the same. However, the major difference is under the hood. The Japanese version has a 660 cc heart while the Indian version is 800 cc. The smaller engine is paired with a mild-hybrid system for maximum fuel efficiency. Let us check out what this unique version of the Alto (at least for the Indian people) looks like.

New Maruti Alto Revealed
The front end of this model looks familiar from the Suzuki products in India. The headlamps are modern but the round shape reminds us of cars from the past decade. There is a hint of chrome strip between the headlights along with the Suzuki logo. There is a tiny grille and the bumper is designed quite stylishly. The side profile is completely bland with no creases or other patterns. The wheel arches are quite simple but the alloy wheels fill up the gap quite convincingly. This sort of design and dimensions are quite popular in Japan because of the city-friendly elements they offer. These cars are practical and convenient, especially in tight spaces in the city and parking lots.

Maruti Suzuki will most likely have no plans of bringing something like this to India because the customer preferences here are completely different. People in India look for bigger cars for road presence. Also, the industry, in general, is moving towards SUVs and the Indian automobile sales also point in the same direction. The downgrade to something like a 660 cc engine might also not go down well with the Indian customers. Hence, we don’t expect Suzuki to bring this Alto to our shores. Also, the current version on sale in India might soon see a facelift. That will provide the fresh outlook to the entry car in the country that it requires.
