The latest spy shots of the upcoming Mahindra Scorpio reveals the “useless” third-row seats. The Scorpio has been in the testing for quite some time now. We have seen a ton of spy images of the veteran SUV. Scorpio has been a long-running workhorse for Mahindra. People have found great value in a product like this. The Scorpio offers practicality, a 4×4 drive system, a rugged body, a reliable engine and more. These factors have ensured that it remains as one of the most popular SUVs not only for the semi-urban and rural populations but also for day-to-day usage. Now, in the next-gen avatar, it will be interesting to see how Mahindra goes about developing this age-old product. Let us take a look at what the new spy images suggest.

Spy Shot Reveals Third Row of Scorpio
As far as the images go, the third row of seating doesn’t seem to be too spacious. Initially, the Scorpio used to come with side-facing seats in the third row. That was done to compensate for the lack of space. However, this time around, it seems like Scorpio will feature a front-facing third row. This is in line with modern trends and preferences. Also, Mahindra wouldn’t want to risk receiving a low safety score if they offer side-facing seats. That is exactly what happened with the Thar as well. Now, Mahindra also wants the urban population to be a market for the Scorpio. Hence, front-facing seats with modern cabin interiors and features is the way to go. But if the length of the SUV doesn’t increase in comparison to the last-gen model, the third row of seating might be almost “useless”. If that is the case, it will be best suited for children.

Specs
The upcoming Mahindra Scorpio will likely get a 2.2-litre diesel engine making 132 hp and a 2.0-litre direct-injection turbo petrol (from the Mahindra’s own mStallion family), making a decent 152 hp. It will come with 6-speed manual or automatic transmission options for both engines. There might well be the option of a 4×4 drive system as well. As such, Scorpio doesn’t have any direct rival considering the audiences it caters to. However, it still falls under the category of the mid-size SUV segment that is more inclined towards practicality and utility than a luxury. The image also shows the disc brakes at the rear. The expected launch is scheduled to take place very soon.
