Update- Even as many Tata Motors dealerships across the country have started taking unofficial bookings, the Tata Punch has been spied on a flatbed, probably on the way to delivery.
As can be seen in the images we have below, the Punch looks quite funky, especially in the shade of red. However, it’s still not as bold as the concept version we saw at the Auto Expo 2020. The production model is definitely not as rugged and even has a slightly curvaceous fascia as opposed to the in-your-face boxy look of the concept model.
The Ignis-rivalling Tata Punch is all set to launch in India and some dealers have already started taking bookings for the micro-SUV. Tata had showcased the HBX micro-SUV concept in an almost production-ready guise at the Auto Expo 2020. The Punch is based on that. Keeping in line with the SUV trend, Tata is bringing the micro-SUV for the entry-level segment. The Punch will sit below the Nexon. It will attract a ton of people primarily from semi-urban and rural regions because of its rugged built, high ground clearance and enhanced practicality (compared to the regular entry-level cars). Here are the details of the bookings of the Tata Punch.

Ignis Rival Tata Punch Bookings
According to the Tata Punch Club page on Facebook, one potential customer has booked the Tata Punch at Auto Matrix, Hassan, Karnataka. This means that a few dealerships have started taking the bookings unofficially. This also indicates the launch ceremony soon. We expect the Punch arriving at the dealerships around the festive season. This translates to the launch being almost a month away. The market is certainly ready for an SUV in this segment to rival the popularity of the likes of Ignis, S-Presso, Kwid and the upcoming Hyundai Casper. The arrival of Punch will stir up the competition and give the customers multiple options to choose from.

Tata Punch – Expected Features and Specs
According to some spy videos, the features list might include things like a flat-bottom steering wheel which is becoming very popular with modern cars including some of Tata’s own products. This gives it a very sporty feel which is necessary for an SUV. Some of the other equipment lists include a floating Digital Touchscreen Infotainment System with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Air-Con vents and Digital Instrument Cluster which might be borrowed from other Tata products.

The expected engine options might include a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine making 86 hp. There might well be turbo petrol on offer as well. This engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT gearbox. The expected prices of the Tata HBX are likely to be in the region of Rs 4 lakh to Rs 8 lakh, ex-showroom.
