The Mahindra XUV700 has to be the most awaited launch of this year. Recently, we could get our hands on a couple of leaked images that helped us have a clear look at an uncamouflaged unit of the upcoming SUV. That said, the XUV700 is still some time away from its launch and for now, we will just have to satisfy our curiosity with the teasers and the spy images. Funnily though, a Mahindra XUV700 is said to have been pulled over by cops even before the upcoming flagship offering from Mahindra could hit the market.

As per a Facebook post, a test mule of the Mahindra XUV700 was flagged by the cops on the Mumbai-Pune expressway for rash driving. Further details on this incident aren’t available but given the extensive testing of the upcoming SUV, it’s not surprising to see one of the test mules coming under the scanner of the cops for a possible violation of a traffic law. It is worth mentioning here that it’s been over a couple of years since we first saw a test mule of the XUV700. Earlier, it was speculated that the model in question would launch as a replacement for the Mahindra XUV500 but over time, it became known that the new SUV will be positioned above the XUV500 and will be a more premium offering.

Aesthetically, however, the Mahindra XUV700 looks like a slightly grown-up version of the XUV500. The front-end features a similar grille while the C-shaped Clear View LED headlights look like an evolved version of headlamps of the latest XUV500. The side profile is largely similar, too, but the smart door handles give the SUV a distinct touch. The rear-end is where there’s a clear deviation from the styling of the XUV500 as the new model offers a better sculpted tailgate, a larger roof-mounted spoiler and a bigger faux skid plate. The interior will look largely different from that of the smaller SUV, which will be mostly because of the Merc-like twin-screen arrangement for the instrument cluster and the infotainment unit. The cabin will also come with several segment-best features such as an air purifier, auto headlamp booster, dual-zone climate control, biggest panoramic sunroof in the class, customizable warning alerts and Level-2 ADAS.

The Mahindra XUV700 will be available with two engine options – 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre turbo-diesel. The former will output 190PS while the latter will offer 180PS. The diesel motor will even provide drive modes and the upcoming SUV will become the only model in its class to offer an optional All-wheel Drive system. Prices are likely to start at Rs 16 lakh and go all the way to Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom). The range-topping XUV will lock horns with Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus.
