For the uninitiated, the Maruti S-Cross bagged a 5-star adult protection rating in Euro NCAP crash test. However, the car that was tested is the Euro-spec model that gets some more features than the Indian version. Still, however, the Indian model should be able to provide similar levels of safety to a large extent as the basic safety kit on both models is the same. Even the platform for both the cars is the same, which means the structural strength shouldn’t have a difference. The Indian version comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and disc brakes on all 4 wheels. Unlike most Maruti models, it’s also quite well built. Moreover, the S-Cross comes with ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard and the automatic version even gets an automatic transmission.
Powering the Maruti S-Cross is a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that comes mated to the SHVS mild-hybrid system. It outputs 105PS and 138Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque-converter automatic unit. Prices of S-Cross range between Rs. 8.39 – 12.39 Lakh (ex-showroom).
