In comparison to the 2.8-litre 174bhp-450Nm diesel engine of the Toyota Fortuner, the Ford Endeavour offers a 167bhp-420 Nm oil-burner
The Toyota Fortuner is certainly a force to reckon with when it comes to the Indian SUV scene. In its second generation now, the Fortuner is among the most aspirational SUV around and its popularity is such that it’s even among the least depreciating products in the market. The Fortuner was updated earlier this year and received an updated power plant that makes this SUV more potent than ever. Meanwhile, its arch-rival Ford Endeavour clocks less than half the numbers on the sales charts. The Endeavour started life with two engine options – 2.2-litre and 3.2-litre but is now available with a 2.0-litre motor that comes mated to the world’s first 10-speed automatic transmission.

Recently, a video uploaded on Youtube channel of Sanjeet Jaat shows a tug of war match between the updated Toyota Fortuner and the latest version of the Ford Endeavour. In fact, the host has conducted two rounds of this competition, with the SUVs starting off in an open field. In the second round, the two SUVs competed on the tarmac. The reason for conducting two tests is to show how these two perform in varied terrains.
In the first round, you can see both the SUVs parked on an open field and they are both tied together using a tow rope. The video host asks the drivers to start moving in the opposite direction to create some tension in the rope. Next, the Youtuber tells the drivers that the competition has begun and the two vehicles can start trying to overpower each other. Within a few seconds, the two SUVs were found with their wheels dug deep into the loose soil. There was no clear winner and the first round ended up in a tie.
Next, the two SUVs repeat the drill but on the tarmac. Similar to the first round, the two SUVs start moving in opposite directions to create tension in the rope. Next, the video host asks the two to start competing with each other. Within seconds, the Fortuner starts pulling the Ford Endeavour towards itself. The more powerful engine of the SUV seemed to have an edge over its rial. However, soon, the Endeavour came into its elements and started pulling the Fortuner towards itself. Finally, it ended up emerging as the clear winner of this tug of war march.

The result is quite surprising because the 2.8-litre diesel engine of the Toyota Fortuner outputs 174bhp-450Nm as against the 167bhp-420Nm that the Endeavour’s 2.0-litre motor develops. A reason for the Endy’s victory could be the slightly worn out condition of the Fortuner’s tires, which couldn’t gain enough traction to pull the heavier Endeavour towards itself. Another reason could be the excellent automatic transmission which could optimize the power delivery and overpower a slightly more potent rival.
