Mahindra has had one of the most successful vehicle launches in the Indian market in recent times with its second-generation Thar. The latest Thar is an all-new model that is based on a new platform and comes with multiple powertrain options. The SUV only shares the nameplate with its beloved predecessor. The new Thar is aimed at being a serious option for a daily driver with its modern features and balanced on-road manners. However, if you’re planning to buy a second-gen Thar, you may have to wait up to 12 months to get it delivered.

It has already been reported previously that the second-generation Mahindra Thar has very long waiting periods. In its 7 months or so since going on sale, the SUV has garnered over 50,000 bookings. To streamline the production and lower waiting periods, the automaker has had to increase production by 50% and discontinue the base models. However, it seems that it is to no avail as the Thar currently has the longest waiting period for any vehicle in India. According to Mahindra, the automatic variants of the second-generation Thar boast the longest waiting periods with an up to 12-month wait before delivery. Even the shortest waiting period currently stretches to 10 months for the petrol-engined manual gearbox variants.
