The day has finally arrived, after which our roads will finally be able to see the iconic Indian SUV in the 2021 Tata Safari. From names like Buzzard, Gravitas and whatnot, Tata Motors has confirmed that this is the all-new Safari, which had a sort of a cult following since the early 2000s. Officially launched and ready for deliveries, Tata has priced the Safari at mouth-watering introductory prices, which start from as low as Rs 14.69 lakh, ex-showroom. Will Safari be able to shake up the market with its image, styling, safety and pricing, we will find out very soon. But first, let us try to look at the highlights from today’s launch.

2021 Tata Safari – Adventure Persona
We have already done a detailed post along with a video of the exterior styling, interior features and driving impressions of the Safari, which you can watch below. But there is a new special edition variant of the Safari right from the launch, called the Adventure Persona. Like the name suggests, it is catered to the customers looking to take their Safaris out on a weekend getaway on a bit of an off-roading trail. The Adventure Persona Edition can be distinguished from the regular Safari in multiple ways including a distinct tropical mist colour scheme, a combination of Piano-black and Granite Black finishes across the front grille and the roof rails, 18-inch charcoal grey machined alloys and a bold piano black Safari moniker slapped above the front grille of the Safari.

On the inside, the earthy brown interior theme with dark chrome and piano black finished materials add to the rugged and sporty feel which lets you know that you are seated in a vehicle that is capable of taking you across any terrain. Add to that plush upholstery, Panoramic Sunroof, relatively spacious third row, iRA Connected Car Tech with Hinglish Voice Commands, Ashwood Dashboard, Boss Mode (which allows passengers from the rear seat to free up some space for themselves by pushing the front seat) and many such premium features and you get the flagship offering from the Tata Motors.

2021 Tata Safari – Engine-Gearbox Combinations, Prices and Rivals
The 2021 Tata Safari comes with a 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine making 170PS and 350Nm mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or an automatic transmission. There is currently no 4-wheel drive system offered by Tata, but if there is enough demand, the OMEGARC platform is capable of incorporating it into the Safari. We have driven both the transmissions and have stated our review in the video above. What is most interesting are the introductory prices of the Safari which start from Rs 14.69 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 21.45 lakh, ex-showroom for the Adventure Persona Edition with automatic transmission. According to our expectations, these are extremely competitive prices and are bound to shake up the SUV market.

XM | 16.00 lakh | 17.25 lakh |

With such attractive introductory prices, the all-new 2021 Tata Safari will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector and Hector Plus and even Jeep Compass. It must be noted that only Hector Plus is the one which comes with a 6/7-seat arrangement like the Safari. There will be direct competition from Mahindra with its upcoming XUV500 slated for launch a few months from now. We will know soon enough the kind of impact these prices will have on the mid-size and 7-seat SUV segments.
