Mahindra introduced the Marazzo MPV back in 2018 to take on the highest-selling MPV in the country, the Toyota Innova. The plan was to introduce a feature-rich with the same credentials as the Innova but at a significantly lower price point. However, the MPV has not been as popular as Mahindra would’ve liked. In fact, the sales figures for the Marazzo have never been exciting at all. In a bid to change that, Mahindra is now about to equip the diesel powertrain of the Marazzo with an AMT gearbox, to offer convenience to the customers and make the Marazzo a more appealing proposition. Let us take a look at what to expect from this variant.

Mahindra Marazzo – AMT Transmission
The AMT gearbox is the same that Mahindra introduced in the XUV300 recently. In fact, that is the reason that Mahindra is extending this gearbox option to its other products as well. This AMT has been touted as one of the better AMTs around. This is particularly because of the brilliant calibration of the transmission. Generally, any AMT transmission is accompanied by a jerk during the gearshifts. This is inherently a characteristic of an AMT. But the engineers at Mahindra have done a good job to restrict this movement to the minimum. Also, they have incorporated some functions to make this gearbox very exciting. For example, the Creep function lets you move in a traffic situation by just a one-pedal operation. If you remove your foot from the brake pedal, the car will move slowly automatically.

In addition to that, there are various drive modes, according to which the transmission characteristic of the car will change. For example, Power and Eco modes will alter the power output of the car as required by the driver. The Power mode will be useful when one wants to drive in a spirited manner. But when you want a relaxed ride and economy, you can switch to the Eco mode, which will tone down the power output and focus on efficiency. Also, there will be an option of a manual mode, which will let the driver take control of the car and driver according to his wish. Other functions include Hill-Start Assist, Adaptive Pedal Response and Kick-down Shifts.

Mahindra Marazzo – Engine Prices and Rivals
The Mahindra Marazzo comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine making 120hp and 300Nm, which also powers the XUV300. The Marazzo will most likely be the first offering from Mahindra to get its new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with direct-injection technology. This engine produces a massive 161hp and 280Nm. Currently the Marazzo ranges between Rs 11.64 lakh and Rs 13.79 lakh, ex-showroom. The prices of the diesel automatic will be a bit higher than the current variants if Mahindra decides to offer the automatic with the top-trim. The rivals of the Marazzo include Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and XL6, which are the segment leaders for a very long time. There may be brand new MPVs from Hyundai and Kia in times to come, which will stiffen up the competition even further.
