The first month of 2021 has been a promising one for the Indian automobile industry. In general, the growth has been positive for almost all the car manufacturers as compared to the same month last year. Even the comparison with the month before, the sales have been overwhelmingly positive. This marks the Indian automobile industry’s recovery from the economic slowdown due to the pandemic. The particular carmaker in question is Mahindra. Its sales have been driven by SUVs alone since that is what the brand primarily offers and has been offering since its inception. What’s even more interesting is the fact that there are two new launches slated for 2021, both of which are SUVs. These include the next-gen XUV500 and the all-new Scorpio. Let us take a sneak peek into the statistics of the sales within Mahindra.

Scorpio has been selling for over a decade now and still continues to be a very popular SUV. In January 2021, Mahindra managed to sell 4,083 units of the Scorpio compared to 5,316 units in January 2020 and 3,417 units in December 2020. The slight decline in sales in January 2021 compared to January 2020 can be attributed to the fact that the new Scorpio is about to launch in a few months’ time from now. People have been waiting eagerly for that and we might not see as many Scorpios selling till then.

Mahindra Thar – Sales report and excessive demand
Now, the newest addition to the Mahindra family has been the updated Thar, which was launched back in October 2020. Being one of the most talked-about and awaited SUVs in the country, it was received exceedingly well by the customers. Since, its launch it has received over 38,000 bookings, which is impressive. These are the best figures for Thar in such a short period of time. In January 2021, Mahindra sold 3,152 units of the lifestyle off-roader. The waiting period of the Thar in various cities in India is astonishingly 10 months. Almost everywhere, 6-9 months waiting time on the Thar is very common, even though Mahindra increased production from 2,000 units a month to 3,000 earlier. But the demand continuously keeps on increasing every month and Mahindra will be ramping up the production even further to meet this demand.
