We have reported earlier as well, that over 50% of the sales of Toyota come from Maruti Suzuki products consistently. This implies that the sales figure constitutes a healthy chunk of Glanzas and Urban Cruisers. The company also marks a milestone of selling over 50,000 units from this tie-up since the launch of Urban Cruiser in 2019. This clearly shows how the Joint Venture between Toyota and Maruti Suzuki has turned out to be. Toyota has been able to enter and sell well in the compact SUV and premium hatchback segment because of this alliance. This was the intention behind this alliance and it is nice to know the results of this cooperation.
Toyota Global Scenario
It is also relevant to know that Toyota has become the largest car manufacturer in the world in 2020. It regained the top spot from Volkswagen, which was the largest carmaker for 5 years. Although, it is not something unprecedented, as Toyota also already reached the top sport before and was always biting on the heels on VW all this while. The prime reason for the decline in sales of VW group has been the worse-hit European and American markets than the other markets. Toyota banked on this and raced to the top with 9.5 million units sold worldwide. VW managed around 9.3 million units. It shall be interesting to see how the automobile industry in India as well as globally, recover from the aftermath of the pandemic.
