The general trend that follows in the month of January in the Indian automobile industry is a price increase. This happens because of increased input and material costs with the change of the year. That why it is said that the best time to buy a car apart from the festive season is the end of the year. Carmakers offer a ton of discounts to get rid of their stock for the year. Following the same trend, Kia Motors has increased the prices of Sonet and Seltos. Interestingly, Mahindra is offering some substantial discounts on its products. This is done in a bid to completely sell off the products, which are due for either facelifts or all-new generation. Let us look at which products are getting a price update and by how much.

Kia Motors – Price Hike
Kia has announced a price hike on the popular Sonet and Seltos SUVs. The demand for these SUVs remains very strong and the increase in price is not likely to affect sales at all. The Sonet 1.2-litre petrol models get a price hike of Rs 10,000 and the 1.5-litre diesel is expensive by Rs 20,000. What is interesting to know is that the prices of the 1.0-litre turbo petrol remain as they were. On the other hand, the Seltos Anniversary Edition is Rs 11,000 more expensive than before. The prices of the MPV from Kia, the Carnival remain unaltered. We expect no change in sales of Kia products because the hike is not too substantial.
Mahindra – Discounts
While all the other carmakers have announced a price increase for their products, Mahindra has chosen the opposite route. It is offering huge discounts of up to Rs 3.06 lakh on some SUVs and some discounts on almost the entire range. The only exception being the Thar for now. It should not be a surprise to anyone that the car that is getting such a huge discount is the Alturas G4, the flagship offering from Mahindra. This could be because of very poor sales of the SUV in 2020. Rumors are that Mahindra will discontinue the Alturas G4 completely from its lineup. Currently, it can be had with a cash discount of Rs 2.20 lakh, a corporate discount of Rs 16,000, an exchange bonus of Rs 5,000 and some additional bonuses amounting to Rs 20,000. If you want the flagship offering from Mahindra, this is the time to buy it.

The MPV from Mahindra, the Marazzo is offering a benefit of Rs 41,000, including direct cash benefits of Rs 20,000 and an exchange bonus of Rs 15,000. Scorpio also is offering a discount of upto Rs 39,500 because the new-gen Scorpio is due for launch very soon. The prime reason for these huge sums of discounts is many of these models are getting replaced by the next-gen models this year itself. A few of these have large discounts because of being not so popular among buyers. Whatever the case may be, if you had an eye for any of these cars, there will not be a better time to buy these cars.
