Volkswagen India ended 2020 on a bit of a high, with sales increasing by a massive 72% MoM. However, the sales were 31% less as compared to the same month last year. This means that it was a mixed bag for VW India. But VW has announced quite a few launches in 2021 to expand its foothold in the Indian market. All-new Vento in on the cards. The most awaited product for VW India, the Creta-rival, Taigun is soon to be launched and can prove to be the most valuable asset to the company. While everyone was busy anticipating what Taigun might bring, VW has hinted at the arrival of a new SUV crossover even before the launch of the Taigun.

The car in question is the Atlas Cross Sport which is a large SUV crossover (SUV with a Coupe like body). At an event, the company teased an SUV under covers, which resembles something like an Atlas Cross in the international market. We have reasons to believe that VW will start this year by launching the Atlas Cross Sport before its much-awaited Taigun.
Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport – Exterior
From the outside, the SUV looks unmistakably VW in the design of chrome of the front grille. The typical squared-off LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs to give it a typical nose which we have seen on all VW SVs. The sporty bumpers and large alloys give it a much more sporty stance and give it a certain road presence. There are chrome belt inserts all over the body including the side doors and rear. The LED tail lamps are also something which we have seen on other VW SUVs. The length of the Atlas Cross Sport is just under 5m which suggests a very comfortable rears seat experience. Considering this is a 5-seater SUV, the rear legroom and cabin space will be plenty. The boot will definitely be a large one, increasing the practicality quotient of the car.

Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport – Engine Competition
Internationally, the Atlas Cross Sport comes with a 3.6-litre V6 making 276hp and 360Nm or a 2.0-litre 4 Cylinder making 235hp and 350Nm. Both these are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission gearbox. In India, we expect a smaller engine with the same gearbox combination. There might be the VW’s 4Motion 4 Wheel drive system on offer, improving the utility of Atlas Cross Sport. With the segment that it will be in the chief rivals may include Jeep Compass and upcoming Skoda Kodiaq.
