When Jeep launched its first relatively affordable product in India in 2017, the Compass, it received a lot of interest from the buyers. people wanted to buy into the brand image, that Jeep commands. It did enjoy quite a bit of success in its early days. But ever since, the segment and the markets have evolved so much that the sales figures for Compass are anything but exciting. This can also be attributed to the tough competition that it is facing from the other car makers. The other manufacturers are offering more tech at a bit lower price point, which makes other products a better value for money proposition.

Jeep tried to spice up things with the addition of a number of special edition variants to the existing Compass, but still, it is not very high on the list of highest-selling vehicles in the country. Jeep is trying to change all of that by planning to launch 4 new products within the next two years. Let us look at what Jeep has planned to gain back some market share, which it has lost over the last couple of years.
2021 Jeep Compass
Well, we have already done a detailed analysis of what Jeep will offer with its first update for the Compass. It is about to launch on 7 January 2021. Jeep is hoping to gain back its lost glory with the Compass again and set a strong foundation for the next products to come. Have a look at what to expect from the new Jeep Compass.
Jeep Grand Cherokee
Jeep Grand Cherokee is the big brother of the compass but sits way above the Compass in terms of the price range. It comes in India in its Summit version which had a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine making 240hp and 550Nm. It costs upwards of Rs 1 Cr mark. but Jeep has confirmed that it will start local assembly of the next-gen Grand Cherokee in its Ranjangaon plant. This will bring down the costs of the Grand Cherokee quite significantly. However, it remains to be seen, with which variants, engines and features do Jeep decide to launch the Grand Cherokee in our market.

Jeep Wrangler
The Jeep Wrangler is arguably the most legendary vehicle in the off-roading world. It has a legacy behind it that goes decades back. One of the most iconic designs, which is still relevant for this day and age, was originally developed by Jeep. Wrangler represents that legacy and finds an overwhelming appeal even today across the globe. In India the Wrangler comes with a 2.0-litre 4-Cyl turbo petrol engine, churning out a massive 268hp and 400Nm. It comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The price of the model currently on sale in India sits between Rs 64 lakh and Rs 69 lakh, ex-showroom. It will be interesting to see if the locally assembled units will make a huge difference in the prices of the Wrangler.

7-Seater Jeep Compass
Jeep has announced the arrival of its mid-size Compass in the 7-seater guise sometime next year. It will enhance the appeal of the Compass by adding a third row of seating. This offers a lot more practicality to the Compass than ever before. It will prove to be very prominent to tackle the competition as well. We assume that the engine and gearbox options will remain the same as the regular Compass. The prices will see a slight increase over the regular facelifted Compass.
Now, Jeep is trying really hard to increase its market share by introducing new models in India. This is necessary if the brand wants to remain in India and compete because the competition is not easy by any standards. What does the future hold for Jeep in India, remains to be seen.
