Ever since the Auto Expo 2020. Volkswagen has been busy preparing a slew of products for India. The India 2.0 strategy with Skoda Group includes a range of new products for our markets. It also focuses on growing the existing service network and bringing maintenance costs in check. Auto Expo saw products like the T-Roc in its CBU avatar. Volkswagen has managed to sell those out completely. That was to tease and test the market response. More prominent cars include the all-new mid-size SUV, the Taigun. That is what we are here to discuss today. Also, check out the new car launches in 2021!
Volkswagen Taigun – Exterior
Taigun is unmistakeably Volkswagen from the outside. This is only a good thing, considering, Volkswagen is known for its timeless and contemporary design. The sides are accentuated by sharp creases and a boxy stance. The alloys are also typical Volkswagen, in that, VW uses this alloys design on all of their international SUVs. The front is a bold look with LED Headlamps and DRLs. The front also looks kind of shiny with chrome on the front grille. The flat bonnet will allow for good visibility.
The rear looks really modern with a connected LED tail lamps. The roof is blacked out to give the dual-tone option. The ground clearance is plenty at 205 mm. This will allow for occasional off-road usage. The wheelbase is a decent 2651 mm. This will definitely reflect in interior cabin space. Overall design language screams typical Volkswagen.

Taigun, of course, comes with a Full-Digital Instrument Cluster with sharp graphics. There is an 8-inch Touchscreen Infotainment System in the centre console and plenty of storage areas. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard with the Infotainment System. Let’s see all of this makes it to production.

Volkswagen Taigun – Engine and Transmission
Volkswagen Taigun is expected to come with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, which will make 150hp and 250Nm. Being a compact SUV, it might also be offered with a smaller 1.0-litre TSI engine making 110hp and 175Nm. The 1.0-litre engine could be paired with a 6-speed manual or a torque converter. The bigger 1.5-litre engine might be suited best with a 7-speed DCT (DSG, as VW likes to call it).

Volkswagen Taigun – Expected Prices
With around 95% localization, VW can price the Taigun rather competitively. Also, in order to compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector and Tata Harrier the prices need to be competitive. We expect the prices around the Rs 10 lakh mark. Taigun could potentially be a product that can secure VW’s future in India.
