New Hyundai i20
While it may come as a surprise to a lot of people, but the new Hyundai i20 is one of the few hatchbacks available with a diesel engine after the BS56 norms came into effect. That is the reason it enjoys this edge over other hatchbacks and offers a whopping 25.2 kmpl. This diesel engine comes with a 1.5 l diesel engine making 100 hp and 240 Nm. It comes with a 6-speed manual transmission.
Even in the petrol variant, it offers an impressive mileage of 20.35 kmpl.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno (Petrol Smart Hybrid)
The Petrol Smart Hybrid variant of the Baleno has a fuel-consumption of 23.87 kmpl. This variant makes 88 hp as compared to the regular petrol which makes 82 hp. However, both the variants make identical 113Nm of torque. The mild-hybrid technology helps with the mileage a lot.
Tata Tiago
Tata Tiago comes with a 1.2 l Reotron engine that makes 85 hp and 113 Nm. It offers an impressive mileage of 23.84 kmpl. This is almost similar to what the Baleno offers.
Renault Kwid
The 800 cc engine variant of the Kwid is good for 22.3 kmpl. The more powerful 1.0 l engine also offers a decent fuel economy of 21.74 kmpl. Kwid is the entry-level hatchback in Renault’s lineup and is very popular in semi-urban environments because of its SUV-like body design and high ground clearance.

Maruti Suzuki Alto 800

Maruti Suzuki Ignis
Offered under the Nexa division of Maruti Suzuki, Ignis comes with the same engine as the Baleno, a 1.2 l 83 hp and 113 Nm. The fuel economy figure stands at a comfortable 20.89 kmpl.

Hyundai Santro
The recently launched all-new Santro comes with the same 1.1 l engine as before making 68 hp and 100 Nm. Being only the second Hyundai product in this lineup, it offers a healthy 20.3 kmpl mileage.
