Check out this video where you can see the 2020 Mahindra Thar Diesel AT tested out in the desert, doing dune bashing.
2020 Mahindra Thar has been launched in India, and recently crossed the 15,000 bookings mark as well. In just 2 weeks, it has started garnering a huge response. We have already taken the Thar for off-roading, however, here is a video where you can see it trying dune bashing and all the other tests in a desert.
In this video, the car used is the Thar Diesel AT which is the top-end variant loaded with all the bells and whistles. You can see the reviewer doing high speed drifts, wheel articulation tests and checking out the low range transfer case of the Thar. The wheel locking has also been tested in one part where the guy tries to do articulation.

Further, the differential locking can also be seen where the guy tries to climb a steep slope that too with sand all over. He also can be seen doing hill climb with 4H and 4L engaged. Since this is an automatic car, the gears will be changed as per the drivetrain you choose. Although, the owner found his car mostly in 1st and 2nd gear while driving in 4L.
The 2020 Thar comes with a 2.2 Litre turbo-diesel engine that is good for 130 BHP and 320 Nm of peak torque. Also on offer is a 2.0 Litre petrol engine that produces 150 BHP and 320 Nm of torque. Both the engines come paired to a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed torque converter unit, along with 4X4 drivetrain and low range transfer case gearbox as standard.
Other features onboard include hill climb and descent control, cruise control, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, real-time Adventure statistics, dual airbags, rear parking sensors and roll-over bar. It comes in two variants – AX and LX – the former with a 6-seating configuration and the latter in a 4-seater configuration. Prices start at Rs 9.80 Lakhs up to Rs 13.75 Lakhs (ex-showroom).
