Here is an accident that involves Tata Nano and Tempo Traveller, the latter rear-ending it. However, just compare the damage received by both of them.
Tata Nano is now discontinued but has had a lot of appreciation when it was being sold. It was termed ideal for rural or TIER-II cities, where just some closed personal transportation method was appreciated. In case of its build quality, there are very mixed reactions as we have seen some accidents that had a huge impact on Nano, while through some cases it came out strong.
Here is an example where you can see the build quality of Tata Nano. The hatchback was rear-ended by a much bigger Tempo Traveller. For the Tempo, the front portion has crumpled damaging its bonnet, grille and front bumper. The impact is not that high, but yes in comparison of Tata Nano, it is much more.

On the other side, Nano just has a dent on the boot, a couple of scratches and the number plate has broken. While the Tempo cannot be used in this condition, the hatch can still be used daily. At first, it seemed like fake but if you clearly see, the Tempo has received an impact on the bonnet and Nano, just below the rear windscreen.
Tata Nano was actually India’s cheapest car but not for a Lakh. Its price started at around Rs 2 Lakhs going up to Rs 3.5 Lakhs (ex-showroom). It got power from a 672cc twin-cylinder engine that was good for 37 PS and 51 Nm of peak torque. However, it was offered with a 5-speed manual as well as an AMT.
Now, four Tata cars are in the top 10 safest cars of India, including Altroz, Nexon, Tiago and Tigor. Even Tata Hexa and Harrier are very durable and have the strong build quality, but their safety tests have not been done yet. Nexon and Altroz scored 5-star rating, while the other two get 4 stars.
