As the deliveries of Kia Sonet have begun, a total of 9269 units of the compact SUV have been sold in just 12 days of it being launched!
Kia Sonet was launched in the third week of September and the very next day, the deliveries also commenced across the country. The waiting period is definitely high but in comparison to Seltos, it is lower. While Seltos had the maximum waiting period for more than 6 months, Sonet has a maximum of 4-5 months.
The monthly auto sales are out and Kia Sonet has bagged the first position in the sub-compact SUV sales. In just 12 days of it being launch, Kia has sold around 9,269 units of the SUV. That’s record high in comparison to other SUVs of this segment. However, again, Kia Seltos registered far more sales in the first month.

The second position is taken up by Maruti Vitara Brezza which registered sales of 9,153 units. Venue takes up the third position as Hyundai sold 8,469 units of the SUV. Barring Vitara Brezza and Honda WRV, all other SUVs in the segment have registered a positive growth. Nexon registers the highest Y-o-Y growth of 111%.
In overall, this particular segment has seen an upward of 42% from September 2019. This is the highest growth registered by any of the other segments. With upcoming entrants like Toyota Urban Cruiser, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite, the segment will further witness alarming rate of sales growth.
Kia Sonet comes in as a very VFM product offering three engines and five gearbox options. It gets a 83 PS 1.2 Litre petrol engine, a 100 PS/115 PS 1.5 Litre diesel engine and a 120 PS 1.0 Litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine. Gearbox options include a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT for diesel engines, a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT for turbo engine and a 5-speed MT for the petrol engine.

Prices of Kia Sonet start off at Rs 6.71 Lakhs up to Rs 12.89 Lakhs (ex-showroom). It is among the costliest SUVs in the segment and with on-road prices going upto 15-15.5 Lakhs, many buyers are considering switching for mid-spec trims of Kia Seltos.
