BMW To Launch 2 Series Gran Coupe in India on October 15, 2020!

The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will be the new entry point in the brandโ€™s sedan lineup in India with prices expected to start from Rs 35 lakhs. Its meant to directly rival the upcoming Mercedes A-Class Limousine and Audi A3.

Come October 15, 2002, BMW is going to have a new entry-point to their sedan lineup in India, or Gran Coupe as BMW likes to call it. BMW has announced the launch date of the upcoming 2-Series Gran Coupe to be on October 15. The BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe will be positioned below the 3-series in India and it will be the brandโ€™s smallest four-door sedan in the country. It will be pitted directly against the upcoming Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine and the updated Audi A3 sedan as well, making it the new entry-level sedan in India.

The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is actually based on the 1 Series hatchback and it also shares its underpinning with the BMW X1 SUV. Built on a built on a front-wheel-drive platform, the 2 Series Gran Coupe has a styling thatโ€™s typically new-age BMW with a large kidney grille and aggressive LED headlamps. This four-door sedan has a low-slung look and combine that with the sloping roofline and pillar-less doors, you get a very attractive looking car. The front and rear bumpers on the car are also very aggressively styled. The dual-tone alloy wheels and dual exhausts further add to the sporty quotient.

On the inside, the dashbaord layout is pretty familiar with most modern BMWs and in fact, most of it has been carried over from the 3-series sedan. The ergonomics are spot on are BMWโ€™s i-drive system controlled by a swivel wheel on the center console remains one of the best in the business. Some of the features you can expect include  a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ambient lighting, a head-up display, Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, powered front seats, lane departure warning, active cruise control, connected navigation, BMW digital key as well as a parking assistant.

Under the hood, the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe will be launched with a 190hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine initially and the model will be known as the BMW 220d Gran Coupe. Later, a 192hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine will also join the lineup and it will be known as the 220i Gran Coupe. Both engines are expected to come mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. BMW also sells the 2 Series Gran Coupe in a M235i xDrive variant with 306PS of power, internationally. That however will not make it to India but you might be able to opt for the optional M package which brings some add-ons from BMWโ€™s M Performance bin.

Compared to its direct rival โ€“ the upcoming Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine โ€“ the 2 Series Gran Coupe is slightly shorter in length but it is wider of the two. The 2-Series Gran Coupe also has a shorter wheelbase than the A-Class Limousine and so interior space might be tighter for the former. When launched, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is expected to be priced from Rs 35 lakh, going up to Rs 38 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec trims.
