The next-gen Mercedes Benz C-Class has been spied testing undisguised for the first time and its clearly inspired from the new S-Class, both on the inside and outside. There will be massive changes under the hood as well.
Mercedes-Benz unveiled the new-gen S-Class last week and like with most flagship products, the new S-Class sets the tone for the next-gen E-Class and C-Class. The new S-Class debuts a brand new design for both the exterior and interior and a lot more new tech as well. Quite surely, all of this will filter down to its smaller siblings in some form or the other. So here’s something from the other end of the spectrum already. The new 2022 Mercedes Benz C-Class has been spotted testing undisguised for the first time, and yes, there are a lot of S-Class influences.
The most noticeable of those influences are the new headlights which are clearly inspired from the S-Class. It looks much sleeker than the current-gen model and could even feature Mercedes’ new Digital Light System. The grille also has a new oval-esque shape with a huge tri-star logo in between. The styling of the front bumper seems to be inspired from AMG cars, for what looks like the standard C-Class. Although we do not see the rear profile of the car, it is expected to come with new wrap around headlamps like the new S-Class with a prominent light-up pattern.
It is on the inside that the S-Class influences are even more evident, just like it has been with the current-gen model. The new Mercedes Benz C-Class gets a massive touchscreen infotainment system, this time obviously oriented vertically. There are seems to be a new touch-pad (not touchscreen) for the climate controls. The steering wheel has clearly come from the S-Class and there’s a new free-floating digital instrument cluster which possibly could get the same 3D treatment as the new S-Class. The AC vents too boast a new design.

It is under the hood that the next-gen C-Class will see the most important changes. It will come with a range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engine but it will also inevitably see a new plug-in hybrid model as well. And although there will be an AMG model in the cards, reports claim that the next-gen C63 will be using a downsized four-cylinder engine. That’s a massive heartbreak. The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 motor in the current-gen Mercedes C63 AMG is a beast of a machine and might as well go out and get one for yourself while we still have one.

Currently, Mercedes-Benz retails the C-Class in India with its price ranging from Rs 40.90 lakh to Rs 76.5 lakh. The screaming C63 however comes for a whopping Rs 1.33 crore. That makes the C-Class one of the most versatile model lineups to include everything from a regular luxury family sedan, to two-door coupes and even sportscars. The next-gen model is slated for a debut sometime next year with the AMG model following suite. The Mercedes C-Class rivals the likes if the Jaguar XE, BMW 3-Series and the upcoming facelifted Audi A4.
