Hyundai is offering as many as three gearboxes – 6-speed iMT, 6-speed MT and 7-speed DCT – with the 120hp 1.0L turbo-petrol engine on the Venue and if you had been wondering which is the fastest of the lot, here’s your answer to it.
Hyundai recently launched the Venue turbo-petrol variant with a new iMT gearbox and it is really unique for what it has to offer. The 120hp 1.0L turbo-petrol engine is thus now available with three transmission options – a 7-speed DCT, a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed clutchless manual gearbox. The DCT gearbox gives you the convenience of an automatic gearbox while the manual gearbox is pretty fun to drive. Now with the new iMT gearbox, Hyundai intends to offer the best of both worlds. You can have the pleasure of shifting the gears yourself with a traditional stick shift but you don’t have to put up with the pain of using a clutch.
But if we compare out right performance of all three gearboxes with the 1.0L turbo-petrol engine, which one do you think will come out on top? The 1.0L turbo-petrol engine is all about having fun but which gearbox is the one which will make it the fastest? Well, Zigwheels has just put that to test and here and the performance numbers of the Hyundai Venue 1.0L turbo-petrol with each of the three gearboxes.
Venue Turbo iMT | Venue Turbo MT | Venue Turbo DCT | |
0-100kmph | 10.64 seconds | 10.99 seconds | 11.24 seconds |
30-80kmph in third gear | 7.53 seconds | 9.02 seconds | —– |
40-100kmph in fourth gear | 12.25 seconds | 14.59 seconds | —– |
Kickdown Mode (20-80kmph) | —– | —– | 6.72 seconds |
The results as it stands are quite surprising indeed. It is the Venue with the iMT gearbox that comes out on top with a 0-100 kph time of just 10.64 seconds. The manual variant is a close second with a time of 10.99 seconds while the DCT equipped 1.0L Venue Turbo comes last in this performance test. You’d normally expect the DCT gearbox to be the fastest of the lot but it is not actually the faul of the gearbox that it came last.

Actually, the DCT transmission does not allow the car to be launched hard as the revs are limited to just 2,500 rpm at launch and that is where you are little slower getting off the line. But the DCT gearbox comes to its element in roll-on acceleration where the quick shifting nature of transmission is easily evident. The gears are dropped quickly and the power comes in instantly, which is why it is able to accelerate from 20 to 80 kph in just 6.72 seconds.

Meanwhile, the Venue MT does the 30-80 kph roll-on acceleration in third gear in 9.02 seconds while the 40-100 kph inm forth gear comes up in 14.59 seconds. The Venue iMT is however quicker than the MT in roll-on acceleration. The 30-80 kph run in third gear comes up in just 7.53 seconds – about 1.5 seconds faster than the MT – while the 40-100 kph run is about 2.34 seconds faster for the iMT than the MT. And that is despite the gearing ratios seeming similar for both the iMT and MT. So if performance is your outright priority, the Venue iMT is the easy pick of the lot. Noit only is it the quickest, but it is also engaging to drive and convenient at the same time.
