Here we have a new Kia Seltos vs the old Hyundai Creta in a drag race. Both SUVs have diesel engines under the hood but while the Creta is a manual, the Seltos is automatic. Find out who wins!
The Kia Seltos and the new-gen Hyundai Creta and are sister cars of each other and are identical under the skin. The platform, the engine and gearbox combination and most other mechanical components of both the SUVs are completely identical. If you drag raced both of these SUVs, you are likely to get very similar results, the differences only being brought about by the driver. But here we have something a little more interesting – its the new Kia Seltos vs the old Hyundai Creta in a drag race.
The Kia Seltos used here is the diesel variant of the SUV and the engine comes mated to a torque converter automatic gearbox. The Creta is also a diesel variant but in case of the Creta, the engine comes mated to a manual gearbox. Although not identical in terms of specifications, it would still be interesting to see who comes out on top of this drag race. This video was uploaded by vlogger Sanjeet Jaat on his Youtube channel.
As you can see from the video, the Creta gets off the line better than the Seltos in spite of having some wheel spin. The launch of the Creta has to be credited to its manual gearbox but then after, the Seltos soon catches up and quickly takes the lead. And it goes on extend that lead right up to the finish line. The race was conducted in three rounds and the result was the same every time. In the second attempt, the Creta gets an even better start and builds a significant lead but still, the Seltos catches up and is soon gone.

So what exactly happened here? Well, it all comes down to power and torque. This Hyundai Creta is equipped with a 1.4L diesel engine which churned out 90bhp and 220Nm of torque. The Seltos on the other hand is equipped with a 1.5L diesel engine that produces 115bhp and 250Nm of torque. In spite the Creta having a better start every time due to manual gearbox, the Seltos could easily catch up and then out run it because it is significantly more power and also has more torque.

Hyundai also sold the previous-gen Creta with a bigger 1.6L diesel engine which produced 126bhp and 260Nm of torque. Of course, if that variant of the Creta was running the drag race here, the results might have been completely different or could have been more evenly matched. The current-gen Hyundai Creta is equipped with the same 1.5L diesel engine as the Seltos and produces the same power and torque.
