A leaked document reveals that Hyundai has trademarked a new name called the Alcazar in India which has been classified as an SUV. This name could indeed be used for the upcoming 7-seater Hyundai Creta.
Hyundai has trademarked a new name in India and its called the Alcazar. It has been classified as an SUV and there are already a lot of speculations about what this really could be. Hyundai does have a few SUVs in the pipeline for India, so is it any one of them? Or is Hyundai building an all-new India-specific car? Well, let’s dig a little deeper and find out what the Alcazar is all about. Firstly however, we would like to point out that a manufacturer trademarking a name does not necessarily mean that the name will make it to a production vehicle in the end.
Take the name ‘Aura’ for example. Hyundai had trademarked the Aura name even before the launch of the Venue and it was speculated that Hyundai’s sub-compact SUV will be called the Aura. However, it later turned out to be Venue and the Aura name was used much later on the sub-compact sedan. A similar case also happened with Kia where they trademarked a different name for their mid-size SUV until it finally came to be called the Seltos.
But that does not mean that we stop speculating either. The leaked documents reveals that the Alcazar has been classified as an SUV. Although Hyundai does not have any more SUVs lined up for launch this year, they have a very important vehicle lined up for 2021 and that’s the 7-seater Creta. This could then be the name of the upcoming 7-seater version of the Hyundai Creta. It was recently spied testing internationally and it is essentially a stretched version of the regular Creta and will come with similar powertrain options as well.

While the 7-seater Creta is definitely a possibility, Hyundai also has an upcoming electric SUV lined up for India that will be much more affordable than the Kona. It will be pitched as a rival to the Tata Nexon EV. The Alcazar name could also very well be used for this upcoming electric SUV. Lastly, there is a possibility that Hyundai does not use the Alcazar name for any of its SUVs at all although it has already been classified as an SUV. It could be instead be used for any one of Hyundai’s upcoming models which are under development.

There is however maximum possibility that Hyundai will use the name for an SUV itself. Hyundai SUVs are usually named after certain places and the Alcazar is actually the name of a castle in Spain. It is also worth mentioning that Hyundai does not have any vehicle named the Alcazar even from their global lineup and this will be a India-specific name only. All this is only but a game of speculation right now but we can’t wait to see what Hyundai comes up in the form of the Alcazar.
