This year, both Toyota Innova and Maruti Swift have completed 15 years of their existence in the Indian market, a major feat for both the cars.
Maruti Suzuki came together and started their India innings in 1983. Some of their first cars including the Maruti 800, 1000, Zen, Esteem and WagonR. Barring Esteem, all of them were very simple to look out. They were all practical but not at all a sight to look out. Then in 2005, something great came from the company.
In 2005, Maruti Suzuki launched the Swift hatchback. Its design was something unique and sporty at that time. Some might say even ahead of its time. At an affordable price, it came with a humble but peppy engine and decent fuel efficiency. In May this year, Swift completed 15 years in India.

Not just Swift, but another car that changed the Indian automotive market was launched in 2005. After seeing huge success with Corolla and Qualis, Toyota went for something that was practical and premium. At a price of Rs 7 Lakh, it was not that affordable in 2005. However, its popularity did not seem to car a bit out the price.
Toyota Innova was launched in February 2005 only to set a benchmark for all the MPVs. It was so popular that for more than 5 years, there was no update for the Innova. Still, it was one of the best selling cars of that time. The MPV was very premium with alloy wheels, beige interiors, faux wood inserts, dual airbags, ABS and a very powerful air conditioner.
Both the cars are still running strong, being the most popular in their segment. Many buyers still have the first-gen Swift with either in a modified version or not in that great condition. On the other side, there’s the same scenario. Many of the buyers still use it as their daily driver and that too without any complaint.
