Tata Harrier is one of the most popular SUVs in India right. Carrying on with the Land Rover inspired looks and a sturdy appeal, it is one of the best selling SUVs above 15 Lakhs. Here’s a video of it racing against the BMW X1 diesel, which is double its price and double its premium quality. Let’s see who is the winner.

As you can see, Tata Harrier manages to stay ahead for a brief 20-30 seconds. Till both the cars are in their second gear, Harrier has a head start but with a small difference. Once the third gear is on, BMW swiftly overtakes the Harrier and leaves it behind by a huge difference. The end result is that the BMW X1 is the winner.

X1 and Harrier both get a 2.0 Litre turbo diesel engine. However, this is the pre-facelift Harrier which produces 140 PS instead of 170 PS and 350 Nm on the current model. X1, with its diesel engine, produces 190 PS and 400 Nm of peak torque. If we had the BS6 Harrier in the race, the difference would not have been so big.
Both the SUVs come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard fitment. Interestingly, both also have a kerb weight of 1650 kilograms. In this case, X1 purely won the race on the basis of extra power and torque that it gets. In the video, the X1 that we can see is quite old and not the latest model.
The BS6 Harrier continues with the same engine but produces more power. It also gets the option of a torque converter automatic gearbox now along with the 6-speed MT. Along with the updated engine, the SUV gets small cosmetic upgrades including new colours, new alloy wheels and slightly refreshed headlamp design.
