Top 5 Popular Cars In India That Have Received Poor Safety Ratings
Datsun Redi-GO – 1 star
Redi-GO has received a meagre 1-star safety rating, having a driver-side airbag as standard fitment. Its body structure has been declared unstable by the NCAP crash tests. Despite offering adequate safety for the head and neck region, the chest and leg protection was very poor. Datsun is said to be working towards achieving more safety rating for its hatch.
Renault Kwid – 1 star
Renault has achieved a poor 1-star rating for the Kwid. The base-trim comes with a driver airbag as standard, leading to a poor rating. If there would have been dual airbags offered as standard, the rating would have been slightly better. Interestingly, the Duster gets a good safety rating of 3-stars and is known for its sturdy build.
Maruti WagonR – 2 star
The current WagonR has received a 2-star safety rating despite getting dual airbags as standard. Its body structure has been declared unstable by the crash tests despite offering good safety to the driver and passenger’s neck and head region. WagonR also gets poor safety rating when it comes to child occupant because of lack of ISOFIX and three-point seat belt for all seats.
Hyundai Santro – 2 star
Hyundai Santro has received just few points lower than the WagonR, making the latter a safer car. It only gets a driver side airbag on the base variants. The new gen Santro gets lower points due to low safety for the child occupants. Even it does not get ISOFIX and three-point seat belt as standard.
Maruti Swift – 2 star
The last one in the list is the Maruti Suzuki Swift. Its body structure has been declared unstable and cannot take heavy damages. However, it offers good protection to the driver and passenger’s neck, head and knee area. Even for the child occupants, it manages to offer decent protection due to ISOFIX offered as standard.
