These days, you will find numerous petrol automatic cars in the market under a budget of Rs 10 lakh, starting right from entry level hatchbacks to premium hatchbacks and even sub-compact SUVs. From affordable AMTs, to CVTs and even torque converter automatics, there are lots of options for you. Here we have compiled a list of seven petrol automatic cars in the budget of Rs 6-10 lakh that even promise good mileage.
Tata Tiago AMT
Tata recently introduced a facelift on the Tiago hatchback. The updated hatchback now looks quite stylish and packs in a decent amount of features on the interiors as well. The Tiago is powered by a 1.2L, three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 83hp and 114Nm of peak torque. The automatic gearbox in question is a 5-speed AMT unit and the combined mileage of the car is about 19-20kpl in mixed conditions. Tata offers the Tiago AMT is three variants with its price starting from Rs 6.20 lakh and goes up to Rs 6.60 lakh.
Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT
The Maruti Suzuki Swift is one of the best selling hatchbacks of its segment and for good reasons. Its a very stylish looking hatchback with decent interiors and has always been known for its fun to drive character. The Swift is powered by a 1.2L, four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 83hp and 113Nm of torque. The Swift also comes mated to a 5-speed AMT gearbox and returns a combined mileage of 20kpl which is simply class leading. Even Maruti Suzuki offers the Swift petrol automatic in three variants, prices of which starts from Rs 6.66 lakh and goes up to Rs 8.02 lakh.
Hyundai Grand i10 Nios AMT
The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios has been a recent success in the mid-size hatchback segment and is one of our favorites as well. It drives well, the AMT gearbox is smooth and like most other Hyundai’s, its feature packed to the brim. The Grand i10 Nios is powered by a 1.2L, four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 83hp and 114Nm of torque. The transmission unit is a 5-speed AMT and combined mileage from the hatchback is about 18kpl. Prices for the Grand i10 Nios petrol automatic starts from Rs 6.43 lakh and goes up to Rs 7.67 lakh. The Grand i10 Nios is an extremely good value for money package.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno/Toyota Glanza CVT
Moving a little higher up the budget range into the premium hatchback segment, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno really stands out with its fantastic mileage with its petrol automatic variants. The Baleno is powered by a 1.2L, four-cylinder engine that produces 83hp and 113Nm of torque. However, unlike other cars in this list as of yet, the Baleno comes mated to a CVT gearbox and it returns a mileage of 19kpl in mixed driving conditions. Sadly, Maruti Suzuki does not offer the smart-hybrid system with the automatic version of the Baleno. The automatic variants of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno are priced from Rs 7.77 lakh to Rs 8.96 lakh.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has a sister car in the Toyota Glanza. The Glanza has exactly the same petrol-automatic powertrain option as the Baleno with identical specs and mileage. However, Toyota offers the Glanza automatic in two variants, priced from Rs 8.29 lakh to Rs 8.9 lakh.
Honda Amaze CVT
The Honda Amaze has grown hugely popular in its second generation as it marks a significant improvement over its predecessor. It’s looks may be quite polarizing and while its decently equipped on the interiors, it just lacks the flare of some of its modern counterparts. Still, what makes it stand out is its great value for money and it is also the most affordable sedan to be available with a CVT gearbox in India currently. The 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol motor of the Honda Amaze CVT makes 90hp and 110Nm of peak torque. The fuel efficiency of the Honda Amaze CVT with the petrol engine is rated at 17kpl. Honda offers the Amaze CVT in three variants, ranging from Rs 7.74 lakh to Rs 8.78 lakh.

The Ciaz is powered by a 1.5L four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 105hp and 138Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 4-speed torque converter gearbox but more essentially, it gets the smart-hybrid system from Maruti Suzuki. For this reason, the Ciaz returns a mileage of as high as 20kpl.
