A lot of you must be wondering how exactly will a five-door Suzuki Jimny be looking like in India and here’s the most realistic rendition of the same. Does not look very bad, does it?
The Suzuki Jimny will be launched in India sometime next year, and that’s great new. Maruti Suzuki showcased the Jimny at this year’s Auto Expo and the overwhelming response at the Expo is what really urged Suzuki to bring the Jimny to India. The India-spec Suzuki Jimny will however be a five-door model and that is something we have not seen on the Jimny before. Everywhere else in the world, the Jimny is sold as a three-door SUV and India will even be manufacturing the three door model for exports. But Indians being Indians, we need practicality.
Will a long wheelbase Jimny with five doors defeat the entire purpose of a lightweight compact off-roader? Well, the answer to this question, we will only find out with time but a lot of you must also have been wondering how exactly will a five-door Jimny really look like. Well, we can at least answer that question somewhat now. Here’s the most realistic rendering of a five-door Suzuki Jimny we could find on the internet and we quite like it. The proportions do not seem so bad after all and it almost looks like a dwarfed G-Wagon. Or perhaps a Hummer?
This rendition of the Jimny is quite realistic and it hasn’t tampered the design of the SUV any bit other than just stretching it from the middle and adding a couple of door. There are reports that suggest that the India-spec Suzuki Jimny will be less than four meter which means that the SUV will not be quite as stretched as it appears in these renderings but the proportions will be more or less similar.

It would be interesting to see how Maruti Suzuki engineers a five-door Jimny and still manages to keep its traditional appeal alive. The long wheelbase will definitely affect the off-roaders ability over rough terrain but the larger cabin and rear doors will surely appeal to the family buyers in our country. Other than a couple of extra doors, the India-spec Jimny will continue with other basic ingredients of the 3-door Jimny. That includes a ladder frame chassis, rigid axles at both ends and a four-wheel drive system with low-range transfer case.

The India-spec 5-door will come powered by the 105hp, 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that can also be found in the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Ertiga and Vitara Brezza. The Jimny will be sold out of Maruti Suzuki’s premium Nexa outlets and it is expected to be priced from just around Rs 10 lakh. For the money, the Jimny would go up against off-roaders like the Force Gurkha and Mahindra Thar and could also be considered an alternative to like-priced compact SUVs, Maruti’s Vitara Brezza included.
