Tata Harrier will soon get a new turbo petrol engine that will be among the most powerful engines in its segment.
Tata Harrier was launched in January last year with a sole diesel engine. Being one of the most popular SUVs in its segment, it is also the only one to not get a petrol engine ever. Even Mahindra XUV500 does not offer a diesel motor right now, but before the BS6 emission norms, it came with one. A couple of months back, it was introduced with a 6-speed torque converter which made its sales even better.
Reports suggest that Harrier will get a petrol engine by the end of this year. Many existing and interested buyers have suggested Tata Motors that Harrier with petrol engine would also be a crowd puller. Also, most of its segment rivals come with petrol engines.
The engine in question is a 1.5 Litre four-cylinder turbo petrol. The engine is currently under development and is expected to produce more than 150 BHP power. The exact power and torque figures will be revealed towards the launch.

Even if the power figure is 150 BHP, it is more powerful than Kia Seltos, MG Hector and 2020 Hyundai Creta. All three of them produce 143 BHP. Compass Petrol produces above 160 BHP and the Renault Turbo will also produce 152 BHP.
Harrier Petrol will further get different drive modes including a Sport Mode. The transmission options will be the same with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AT. There are chances of paddle shifters as well, since Tata is believed to be working on one for Altroz.
The variants and features of Harrier Petrol will remain the same. It will come with panoramic sunroof, touchscreen infotainment system from Harmon Kardon, cruise control, electric seat adjustment for driver seat, automatic headlamps and much more.
