Bajaj has launched the BS6 compliant versions of the Pulsar 180F and 220F, the former seeing a price hike by about Rs 11,000 while the latter sees a hike of about Rs 9,000.
Today is the day when the BS6 emission norms kick in and Bajaj has launched the BS6 compliant Pulsar 180F and the 220F just in time. The BS6 Bajaj Pulsar 180F has been launched for a price of Rs 1,07,827 while the BS6 Pulsar 220F is now available for a price of Rs 1,17,296 (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). There was of course no gala launch event for these motorcycles due to the Lockdown but Bajaj has silently updated its website with prices for the new bikes.
The BS6 Bajaj Pulsar 180F is now Rs 11,437 more expensive than the BS4 spec motorcycle. In order to comply with the stricter emission norms, the 178.6cc motor is now fed by a fuel-injection system rather than the previous carburettor. The power output of 17.02PS is also identical to BS4 engine. The engine however now produces 0.3Nm of more torque for a total output of 14.52Nm. And all this is despite the fact that the engine now exhales through an additional catalytic converter.
Coming to the BS6 Pulsar 220F, the motorcycle sees a hike in price by Rs 8,960 over its BS4 predecessor. Here again the hike is justified by the addition of a fuel-injection system. The first-gen Pulsar 220F was originally launched with a fuel-injected motor but Bajaj later resorted to a carburettor version to save costs. Now, to comply with the BS6 norms, Bajaj has reintroduced fuel injection to the Pulsar 220F.

The 220cc air and oil-cooled motor now delivers 20.4PS at 8500rpm and 18.55Nm at 7000rpm. Compared to the BS4 version, that’s a drop of 0.53PS though the torque output remains the same. The engine continues to be mated to a 5-speed gearbox. However, with the addition of fuel-injection and catalytic converter, the motorcycle has gained 5kgs of weight which could affect the performance minutely.

Other than the updates to the engine for BS6 compliance, both the motorcycles remain absolutely unchanged mechanically as well as cosmetically. The underpinnings of the motorcycles also remain unchanged. The motorcycles will start arriving at the dealerships soon and deliveries will commence soon after the lockdown has been lifted and situations have normalized across the country.
