Many automakers like Tata, Maruti, Hero, Hyundai, Bajaj and more have decided to shut down their plants till 31st March, due to the outbreak of Coronavirus.
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, a.k.a Corona Virus, most of the states are on the verge of observing a lockdown. Till 31st March, or probably beyond that, a lot of things or services might not be available. Our auto industry is also doing a great cause of observing a lockdown.
Four-wheeler manufacturers like Honda, Maruti, Fiat, Kia Motors, Hyundai, Toyota, Tata, Volkswagen, Mahindra and Mercedes have decided to halt their production. These manufacturers have completely shut down their plants until 31st March.
Amongst two-wheeler brands, Hero and Bajaj have confirmed the discontinuation as well. The process started with all the Maharashtra based manufacturers stopping their productions first, followed by other automakers around the country.

Honda is the latest one to halt its production at its Greater Noida and Tapukara plant. Maruti Suzuki has shut down production at its Manesar and Gurgaon plant along with the R&D centre in Rohtak. Hero has closed its Jaipur and Gurgaon plants as well.
In Maharashtra, Mahindra was one of the earliest ones to shut down its plants. That followed by Volkswagen, Mercedes Benz and Tata Motors, all in and around Pune, have shut their plants. As of now, Maharashtra has the highest number of coronavirus cases in India, around 50 people tested positive.
Down south as well, all the manufacturing plants of Hyundai, Kia and Toyota has been shut down. The positive cases of coronavirus are increasing by the day, and on 21st March, India recorded its biggest jump of 77 cases in a day. As of now, the total number of COVID-19 cases are about to reach 400.

Automakers have done a good job by halting their productions. Since there are a lot of workers in a manufacturing plant, even one positive case will take down more than 500 people at once. Last updated, the automakers will resume their productions from March 31.
