Amidst the coronavirus scare, Honda has postponed the unveil of the 2020 City in India which was scheduled on March 16th. The company is yet to announce a new date for the unveil.
The Coronavirus pandemic has wrecked havoc across the world and it is also keeping us away from quite a few new cars. Honda was supposed the unveil the next-gen 2020 City in India on March 16th but now the manufacturer has postponed the unveiling as well as the media drives of the next-gen City due to the Coronavirus scare. The Japanese manufacturer is yet to announce when it will finally take the wraps off the India-spec sedan.
Honda is not the only manufacturer to have postponed an event due to coronavirus. Even Hyundai has postponed the media drives of the next-gen Creta and resorted to an online launch for the new SUV. Volkswagen too will be opting for an online launch of the T-Roc SUV that is going to launch on March 18th. BMW also resorted to launch the X1 facelift in India through a live video on its website.
In fact, the entire global automotive industry has taken a huge hit due to the COVID-19 virus. The Geneva International Motor Show which is quite certainly the biggest motor show on the automotive calender was cancelled due to the spread of the pandemic. Even the New York International Motor Show has been postponed to August.

Coming back to the Honda City, the midsize sedan is now in its fifth generation in India. The new sedan retains its overall profile to the outgoing model but is significantly more sophisticated and premium in terms of design. The face is dominated by a thick chrome grille and there new sharper LED headlamps as well. The car looks much more sleeker than before. On the inside, the dashboard design is complete new with a more simplistic and minimalist design approach.

In India, the 2020 Honda City will be powered by two engines – a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel. Specifications for the BS6-compliant 1.5-litre i-VTEC motor have already been revealed and it develops more power than the existing unit. The petrol engine will be offered with a manual and a CVT gearbox. As for the 1.5L diesel engine, we expect it to produce around 100bhp, just like the BS4 version. Expect this engine to be offered with a manual and CVT gearbox as well. When launched, the 2020 Honda City is expected to be priced from around Rs 10 lakhs and it will rival the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Toyota Yaris, Volkswagen Vento BS6, Hyundai Verna 2020 and the upcoming Skoda Rapid TSI.
