Hyundai has launched the all new 2020 Creta in India yesterday for a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakhs, ex-showroom. The price goes up all the way up to Rs 17.20 lakhs for the top-end turbo-petrol variant. The Hyundai Creta is literally the sister car of the Kia Seltos that was launched last year. They are identical under the skin and share their powertrains as well. However, the two SUVs can be differentiated on their trims and the features that are on offer in each trim. So how does the Hyundai Creta vs Kia Seltos fare in terms of features on each of their variants. Let’s find out.
For starters, the Hyundai Creta is available in five basic trims – E, EX, S, SX, and top-spec SX(O). The Kia Seltos is available in two broad trim lines – HT-Line and GT-Line. The HT-Line is further divided into HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX and HTX+ trims. Meanwhile, the GT-Line is divided into GTK, GTX and GTX+ trims. The GT-Line is reserved for the turbo-petrol variant only.
Hyundai Creta vs Kia Seltos – 1.5L Petrol Variants
Hyundai Creta EX vs Kia Seltos HTE and HTK ( Base 1.5L Petrol MT)
The base petrol-manual variant of the Creta has been priced at Rs 9.99 lakhs while the Seltos retails for a price of Rs 9.89 lakhs. That makes the base price of the Creta Rs 10,000 more expensive than the Seltos. Also, while Hyundai does not offer the petrol-manual variant right from the base E trim, the petrol-manual variant of the Seltos is available right from the base HTE trim.
The engine in question here is a 1.5L, naturally aspirated petrol engine that poroduces 115bhp and 144Nm of torque. The manual transmission is a 6-speed unit.
In terms of features, since the EX trim for the base petrol-manual variant is the second-in-line trim of the Creta, it naturally comes more loaded than the base HTE trim of the Seltos with the petrol-manual configuration. The Creta comes with features like an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, tyre pressure monitor, electric tail gate release, power folding wing mirrors, a flat-bottom steering wheel and also a cooled glove box over the Seltos.
The Seltos is also fairly well equipped in its base HTE variant but only gets a 3.5-inch 2DIN Audio with Bluetooth system. Hyundai Creta S vs Kia Seltos HTK+ (1.5L petrol MT)
Coming to the mid-spec S and HTK+ trim of the Creta and Seltos respectively, the former has been priced at Rs 11.72 lakhs while the latter retails for a price of Rs 11.49 lakhs. Here again, the Creta is about Rs 20,000 more than the Seltos but it also comes with more equipment than the Seltos. The Creta has additional features like a rear defogger, rear parking camera, a leather wrapped gear lever, driver rear view monitor, automatic climate control and manual rear seat curtains.
The Seltos on the other hand has other novel features over the Creta. While the Creta gets 16-inch steel wheels with wheel covers for the S variant, the Seltos gets 16-inch alloy wheels. The Seltos additionally also gets LED mood lighting with sound effects, a rear sunshade and one-touch up and down for the driver’s window. Both the cars get cruise control, keyless entry with push-botton start and rear wiper and washer for the mid-spec petrol-manual variant.
Hyundai Creta SX vs Kia Seltos HTX (1.5L Petrol MT)
The top-spec petrol-manual SX trim of the Creta has been priced at Rs 13.46 lakhs. Meanwhile, the top-spec petrol-manual HTX trim of the Seltos is available for Rs 13.09 lakhs. For this top-end petrol-manual variant, both cars are almost similarly equipped in terms of features.
Both the Creta and the Seltos get 17-inch alloy wheels. LED headlamps with LED DRLs, leather wrapped steering wheel, ambient lighting, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, rear reclining seats with 60:40 split and adjustable headrests, wireless charger, disc brakes on all four wheels, USB ports for second row, automatic climate control, steering wheel tilt and telescopic adjustment, and tyre pressure monitoring system.
If you are wondering why the Creta still costs more than the Seltos, it is because Hyundai still has the upper hand with some really cool features which are not offered on the Seltos. These features include Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Hill-start assist, chrome outside door handles, puddle lamps, a rear armrest with cup holder and LED map and reading lamps. Perhaps the biggest plus point for the Creta will be its panoramic sunroof. While the Seltos does offer a powered sunroof, its not a panoramic unit and is offered on the even higher HTX+ trim. However, Kia does not offer the 1.5L petrol engine on the HTX+ trim.
So if you had to choose between the Creta and Seltos from its petrol-manual range, the Creta offers more features for each of the corresponding trims of the Seltos. Although the Creta is more expensive for each of those trims than the Seltos, it offers pretty good value nonetheless.
Hyundai Creta SX and SX(O) vs Kia Seltos HTX (1.5L Petrol AT)
For the CVT automatic variants with the 1.5L petrol engine, Hyundai offers the Creta in two trims while Kia offers the automatic variant in only one trim. The SX trim of the Creta with the automatic gearbox has been priced at Rs 14.94 lakhs and the SX(O) trim has been priced at Rs 16.15 lakhs. In comparison, the top-spec petrol-automatic trim of the Seltos is available for Rs 14.09 lakhs. Now that’s a significant difference in price. The SX trim is more expensive by almost a lakh than the HTX trim of the Seltos while the SX(O) trim is over Rs 2 lakhs more expensive.
The features on the HTX trim for the automatic variant of the Seltos remain the same as manual variant. However, if we compare the SX trim of the Creta with the HTX trim of the Seltos for the automatic variants, then the Creta additionally gets paddleshifters, an electronic parking brake, drive modes, air purifier and even traction control modes. And this is apart from the aforementioned features like the panoramic sunroof, ESC, Hill Start Assist, rear arm rest with cup holders and others.
If you go higher up to the SX(O) trim and compare it with the HTX trim of the Seltos, the Creta gets six airbags, 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-speaker Bose premium sound system, leather upholstery, front ventilated seats, powered driver’s seats and also remote engine start/stop.

The 1.5L diesel engine is the only engine that is available on all the trims of both the Creta and the Seltos. The 1.5L diesel mill produces 115bhp and 250Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter gearbox.
The base E trim for the diesel-manual variant of the Creta is priced at Rs 9.99 lakhs while the base HTE variant of the Seltos for the diesel-manual variant is priced at Rs 10.34 lakhs. Comparing the base versions of both cars for the first time with the diesel engine, both cars are almost identically equipped. There are one or two features that the Seltos gets and the Creta does not and vice versa as well.
For example, the Seltos gets disc brakes at all four corners while the Creta gets discs only at the front wheels. The Creta on the other hand has a electric tailgate release which the Seltos misses out on. The Seltos also misses out on the tyre pressure monitoring system. The Seltos on the other hand gets the UVO connectivity suite right from the base variant. There are other differences on exterior highlights but more or less, both cars are equally competent in terms of features. In this case, the Creta makes a better value for money offering than the Seltos on account of being cheaper.
Hyundai Creta EX vs Kia Seltos HTK (1.5L Diesel MT)
For the second-in-line EX and HTK variants of the Creta and Seltos, the former has been priced at Rs 11.49 lakhs while the latter is available for a price of Rs 11.54 lakhs. As was highlighted earlier for the petrol-manual variants for each of these trims, the EX trim is just a little better equipped than the HTK trim of the Seltos.

The Creta SX diesel-manual is priced at Rs 14.51 lakhs while the Seltos HTX diesel-manual is priced at Rs 14.14 lakhs. Just like these trims fared for the petrol-manual variants, the Creta SX comes with quite a few novel features over the Seltos HTX. That includes Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Hill-start assist, chrome outside door handles, puddle lamps, a rear armrest with cup holder and LED map and reading lamps. Perhaps the biggest plus point for the Creta will be its panoramic sunroof.

Meanwhile, the HTK+ trim of the Seltos is priced at Rs 13.54 lakhs, the HTX+ is priced at Rs 16.34 lakhs while the top-spec GTX+ is priced at Rs 17.34 lakhs.
With the HTK+ trim of the Seltos, Kia has managed to keep the base price of the diesel-automatic variant quite low as compared to that of the Creta. Hyundai does not have a corresponding variant of the Creta at this price point. The HTK+ variant gets features like cruise control, keyless entry with push-botton start, rear wiper and washer, 16-inch alloy wheels, LED mood lighting with sound effects, a rear sunshade and one-touch up and down for the driver’s window.
Now comparing the SX trim of the Creta diesel-automatic with the HTK+ trim of the Seltos, the former is Rs 35,000 less expensive than the latter. Inspite of that, the Creta gets additional features like paddleshifters, an electronic parking brake, drive modes, air purifier and even traction control modes, panoramic sunroof, rear arm rest with cup holders and others.
The Kia on the other hands gets a few extra features which include front parking sensors, 360 degree camera, UV Cut glass, and rain sensing wipers. However, the Creta has better features on offer over the Seltos and that too being cheaper than the latter. For this particular trim, it is the Creta that again wins our vote.
Lastly, comparing the SX(O) trim and the GTX+ trim, the Seltos is again Rs 14,000 more expensive than the Creta. For this trim, the Seltos gains features like multiple driving modes, road grip control and even a blind spot monitor. However, it still does not get paddleshifters, an electronic parking brake or even traction control modes like the Creta. Other than that, the two SUVs are fairly well loaded with all other features you would expect at this price point. The Creta is again better value for money for being cheaper and still offering some really cool features.
Hyundai Creta vs Kia Seltos – 1.4L Turbo-Petrol Variants
Lastly, we come to the 1.4L turbo-petrol variants of the Creta and Seltos. The 1.4L turbocharged four-cylinder engine produces 140bhp and 242Nm of peak torque. In the Seltos, the engine is offered with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. In the Hyundai Creta, this engine is only offered with the 7-speed DCT gearbox.
As Kia offers the 1.4L turbo-petrol engine in the Seltos with a manual gearbox, it has allowed them to keep the prices low for the manual variants. The Seltos turbo-petrol with the manual gearbox is available in three trims – GTK, GTX and GTX+ – all of which are priced at Rs 13.79 lakhs, Rs 15.29 lakhs and Rs 16.29 lakhs respectively. For these trims, the Seltos does not have a corresponding trim on the Creta which really gives Kia a competitive advantage. It increases the accessibility of the turbo-petrol engine.
The GTK trim of the Seltos is as well equipped as the HTX trim of the HT-Line. Hyundai Creta SX vs Kia Seltos GTX (1.4L Turbo Petrol DCT)
The Hyundai Creta SX trim with the 1.4L turbo-petrol engine with 7-speed DCT has been priced at Rs 16.16 lakhs while the Seltos with similar configuration has been priced at Rs 16.29 lakhs. There’s just a difference of Rs 13,000.
While the Seltos may be more expensive, it is actually the Creta that stands out with more features. For the GTX+ trim on the Seltos, you additional get multiple drive modes and road grip control over the GTX trim but it is still behind on the paddleshifters, electronic parking brake, traction control modes, and panoramic sunroof from the Creta.
