Hyundai will offer paddle shifters with the 1.0L turbo-petrol engine on the Verna facelift which will definitely up the sporty appeal of the sedan over its rivals.
Hyundai revealed the brand new 2020 Verna facelift a few days ago and even confirmed that the updated sedan will come with a new 1.0L turbo-petrol engine. But that’s not all, Hyundai has something even more exciting for the driving enthusiasts. According to a report by Autocar India, the new Verna will come with paddle shifters for the 1.0L turbo-petrol engine.
The 1.0L turbo petrol engine in the Verna facelift will come equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that will come with paddle shifters. It will definitely up the sporty appeal of the Verna. Along with paddle shifters, there will also be some visual changes for this sporty Verna. That includes front parking sensors, a black chrome finish for the ‘Cascading Grille’ and a black interior with red accents and contrast stitching. We have also seen these touches on the Grand i10 Nios turbo and the Aura Turbo.
It must be noted that the turbo-petrol engine on the Verna will only be available on the top-spec range-topping SX(O) trim. The sporty sedan will thus be loaded to the brim with features like a 4.2-inch colour TFT screen for the part-digital instrument cluster, a larger, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Blue Link connected car tech, a sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone charging, hands-free boot opening and an Arkamys sound system.

Hyundai has however not confirmed about the power figures for the Verna’s engine options. The 1.0L turbo-petrol engine produces 120hp and 172Nm of torque in the Venue and we expect the figures to remain identical for the Verna as well. Apart from this new 1.0L engine, the facelifted car will get new 1.5 liter petrol and diesel engines as well, both of which are expected to produce around 115bhp. The older engines have been phased out due to the BS6 norms. A 6-speed manual gearbox will be standard with the engines. For the automatic variants, the petrol engine will come with a CVT gearbox while the diesel engine can be had with a 6-speed torque-convertor automatic.

The launch of the Verna facelift coincides with that of the next-gen City and it would be interesting to see how these updated sedans rival against each other. It will also rival the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Volkswagen Vento which will be soon be petrol-only models. The Verna will definitely stand out with a turbo-petrol engine with paddle-shifters for the enthusiats. You can however expect it to be quite pricey (in the range of Rs 13-14 lakh, ex-showroom) as it will only come on the fully-loaded SX(O) trim.
