Leaked documents reveal that Tata is working on a new premium sedan which might be named Peregrin. A new rival for Honda City, Ciaz and Verna is coming.
Earlier last year, there were various media reports suggesting that Tata is working on a new sedan. A lot of them suspected it to be a replacement for Tigor, but those rumours were snubbed immediately. The new sedan will be positioned just above Tigor.
Now, IAB has leaked some documents that suggest Tata Motors is working on a premium sedan for our market. It is likely to be named as Tata Peregrin, the name which you can see on the document. Internally, it is codenamed as X452.
The documents also reveal the variants that it might come in, including XE, XM, XT, XT+ and XZ. That’s similar to the variant list of the Altroz, which interestingly, was codenamed as X451. Peregrin will be based on the platform of Altroz, that is the new ALFA platform.

Under the hood, we can expect it to come packed with two engine options, both taken from Nexon. It will get the 1.2 Litre three-cylinder turbocharged Revotron petrol engine and the 1.5 Litre four-cylinder Revotorq diesel motor. The base variants could possibly lose the turbocharger and go with the regular engine.
The petrol engine, on Nexon, produces 120 PS and 170 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine puts out 110 PS and 260 Nm of peak torque. With these power figures, Peregrin might actually be one of the most powerful sedans in its class. Lastly, it would come mated to a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AMT, both for petrol and diesel engines.
Features onboard would be the same that we get on Nexon. The list could include a touchscreen infotainment system from Harmon Kardon, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, electric sunroof, rear AC vents and LED projector headlamps.
We will not be surprised when the Peregrin also manages to score a high four or five-star safety rating. Otherwise, safety features will include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Electronic Traction Control, reverse parking sensors with a rearview camera and auto-dimming IRVMs.

Amongst these, City and Verna are set to get more serious with their new versions coming in. As for Vento and Rapid, both are only-petrol sedans.
