Volkswagen has launched the BS6 Polo now with a new 1.0 Litre turbo-petrol engine. The engine now comes mated to a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT.
In the wake of upcoming BS6 norms, Volkswagen has discontinued the 1.5 Litre TDI diesel engine and 1.2 Litre turbo-petrol TSI engine on Polo. The 1.0 Litre MPI engine has been retained for the base variants while the GT trims will get the turbo motor.
The new 1.0 Litre turbo petrol engine on BS6 Volkswagen Polo produces 110 BHP and 175 Nm of peak torque. This makes it the most powerful hatch in its segment. In comparison to the 1.2 Litre motor, the engine produces around 6 BHP more.
We have the Tiago JTP which is the most powerful budget hatchback in India, but it has still not received the BS6 engine. A good thing that Polo still continues with its powerful engine but loses one of its most important premium highlight.

The 7-speed DSG gearbox has now been replaced with a 6-speed AT. VW has done this to reduce the costs of the BS6 Polo. The DSG gearbox came on big cars like from Audi. The gearbox of the Polo was perfectly tuned and made the hatch even more fun to drive.
The DSG transmission also came with a Sport Mode which pulled the engine to the red line. Made it into a high-revving motor. We haven’t tested out the Polo with the AT gearbox but can surely say, the DSG was perfectly suited for Polo. It is one of the best transmission options in the world.
Also because of this, the prices of BS6 Polo have just increased by Rs 4,000. The base and mid-spec variants come at the same price in comparison to BS4 Polo. That gives it a big edge in its segment because all the BS6 compliant cars have received a much higher price hike.
Polo is still one of the most premium and sporty looking hatches in its class. It does not offer many features like a rearview camera. However, it has an amazing build quality packed with a simplistic cabin. Still enough for an auto-enthusiast.
