In China, the Maxus D90 is powered by a 2.0L turbo-petrol engine that produces 220bhp and 360Nm of peak torque. This engine comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. It remains to be seen if MG will offer a petrol engine on this full-size SUV.
MG’s parent company SAIC has also been working on a new 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that will produce 218hp and 480Nm of peak torque. This is the engine that will most likely power the India-spec Gloster, which by the way, is said to be developed from the FCA’s Multijet II engine. Transmission options could even include an 8-speed automatic gearbox with this engine.
Dimensions
Length | 5,005mm |
Width | 1,932mm |
Height | 1,875mm |
Wheelbase | 2,950mm |
Just like its rivals, the Gloster is also built on a ladder-frame chassis. In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 5,005mm in length, 1,932mm in width, 1,875mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,950mm. That makes the Gloster larger than all of its rivals in India. You can thus expect tons of space on the inside.
Exterior Design
One look at the Gloster and you know this SUV means business. It will come with the signature MG grille replete with lots of chrome bits. It will also have more chrome on its window line and on the doors, just like the Hector. The grille is flanked by sweptback headlamps with LED projector lamps and LED daytime running lamps. The SUV comes with bold sculpted lines on the bonnet and the front bumper, which houses the round chrome-bezel foglamps, which adds to its muscular character. At the rear, it has upright tail gate with LED tail lamps and a big Gloster badging on the tail-gate.
The India-spec Gloster will also get unique alloy wheel design and interior bits to name a few other changes expected, compared to the model on sale elsewhere. The Gloster sports a chunky design and a bold, upright stance.
Interior Design
MG Motors did not reveal the interiors of the Gloster at the Auto Expo as the show car came with tinted windows. However, a recent spy image reveals what the interiors of the India-spec Gloster could look like. The interior of the Gloster looks similar to the Maxus D90, the SUV it’s based on. For starters, the Gloster comes with an all-black dashboard with silver inserts. From the spy shots, we could make out elements like a flat-bottomed three-spoke steering wheel. However, most of the interiors are under wraps to reveal any more details. MG could also offer the Gloster with various seating layouts just like the Hector Plus
