The Maruti Suzuki Dzire facelift gets significant cosmetic changes on the face, an updated SmartPlay infotainment system and most importantly, a more powerful petrol engine.
We have already reported to you that the Maruti Suzuki Dzire compact sedan will soon receive a mid-cycle facelift. It has now been spied for the first time ahead of its launch later this month. The updated sedan comes with revised styling and a new petrol engine.
The most distinctive change on the Dzire facelift is the updated grille which is larger than before. It retains its hexagonal shape and chrome surround but now extends further down to the bumper, merging with the air dam. The number plate housing is now placed within the grille itself. The bumper is completely new with chrome garnish around the fog-lamp housings. Apart from these visible changes, the Dzire facelift is also expected to get some tweaks at the rear, along with a new alloy-wheel design.
With the facelift, the Dzire will also get a new petrol engine. Its a new 1.2L K12C DualJet petrol engine which is essentially a spiritual successor of the 1.2L K12B engine that’s it meant to replace. It debuted with the Baleno hatchback last year and in its BS6 form, the engine produces 90bhp – a 7hp gain over the 83hp K12B engine. Not only is it more powerful, the DualJet is also said to better the K12B motor in terms of efficiency and emissions. The Dzire petrol is already the most fuel-efficient car in its class.

The Dzire facelift with this new petrol engine will however retain the gearbox from the predecessor. The engine will come mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT automatic gearbox. With this, the refreshed Dzire will become the first Maruti Suzuki model to have a DualJet-AMT engine-gearbox combination. However, the Dzire DualJet will not be equipped with Maruti’s SHVS mild-hybrid system, in order to keep prices in check.

On the inside, there isn’t going to be many changes expect for a new seat fabric design and slight tweaks to the wood finish. The Dzire facelift will also get the latest version of the SmartPlay Studio infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Dzire facelift will take on the Honda Amaze, the Hyundai Aura and the Tata Tigor facelift with a fresh vigor. Stay tuned for more updates as we near the updated Dzire’s price announcement.
